Thread: [How-To] Using tiny umbrella to update/downgrade/restore

  1. #681
Thanks Neil001! I was able to get to 4.2.1 and still unlock! Since I used the snowbreeze method for custom fw, do I need to worry about installing SAM for battery issues? Or does that not apply?

  2. #682
When you created the custom fw, did you check the "hacktivation? If you did, then yes you may need SAM. You don't need hacktivation if you have the official sim to activate your phone once it's jailbroken

If you check "hacktivation, you'll need SAM
If you uncheck "hacktivation" you don't need SAM

I've installed Sam and now have the "wildcard Activation", hopefully that will solve any battery drain issues. So now that I have 4.2.1 installed on my 3gs, is it ever possible to reinstall the snowbreeze 4.2.1 fw, or is it a 1 time deal?

  4. #684
Do you have the official sim card to activate your phone? Because all this is not needed if you do. You can create the custom firmware as often as you like, no problem at all.

    Question about the the SHSH's.

I have a Iphone 3gs running on 4.3 BB 5.16.01. I was lucky enough to find SHSH's 4.1 on tiny umbrella so I wanna downgrade it. But when I look on cydia to see my SHSH's at the top it only keeps on saying "This device is in the pending TSS queue" Can I still downgrade and not mess anything up or should I wait until it shows my SHSH's on cydia?

You don't have your SHSH Blobs, so you can't downgrade, if you make jailbreak to your phone then you will be able to save your SHSH for 4.3 and the other new iOS that will come, or you can use tinnyumbrella to save your SHSH for 4.3 if you don't want to jailbreak. But if you don't have SHSH for the older iOS, no downgrade is possible. Unlock as I know is impossible now

This was for the new iPhone4, but now i see that the problem is solved, something went wrong with my browser and did not showed me the posts after that post. Sorry

    Default Restore fresh
My Iphone was stolen and i have a loaner 3gs running 4.2.1 05.15.04. my friends have the phone backed up in their itunes in the event they ever need to use it again. I have jailbroken with greenpois0n and gone to cydia and made my life easier.
How do i restore the phone and put my contacts etc from my itunes into the loaner using tinyumbrella to avoid upgrade?

You dont need tiny umbrella for that. Just right click on your device in itunes and select restore from backup. Then choose the backup you want to restore from.

Hi. I tried to downgrade my iPhone from 4.3 to 4.2.1 using an SHSH I had saved from before. But I always seem to get error 1013, and I did delete the gs.apple from that file (can't remember which one) but I still get it.

I even tried entering DFU mode and restoring using the 4.2.1 IPSW and nothing happens. And yeah I started the TSS server.

Is it so that I have to restart my computer or something similar? I think that I might have done that before when I had errors.

Error 1013 is normal. Either use greenpoison or tiny umbrella's "fix recovery" feature to boot up after that.

  11. #691
Wait... By booting up, do you mean that the downgrade was a sucess?

Also, I found this file named Hosts.Umbrella and I deleted the gs.apple in there, so I am gonna try this one more time :d

Yes, it means the restore was a success. You received that 1013 error because the baseband cannot be downgraded. As far as verifying your SHSH though you were good.

Ohh. I hope I didn't mess things up by restoring... like 8 times then?

So now I should just use fix recovery and then jailbreak it like I normally would with greenpoison?

Edit: The Fix Recovery didn't work. I got a popup message saying futil and a lot of numbers followed by that wasn't responding.

You can just use greenpoison on it if you want. No need for the fix recovery feature in tiny umbrella if you plan on jailbreaking. They will both be able to boot the phone after that 1013 error on 4.2.1.

  16. #695
    Ok. Unfortunately, I can't connect to Greenpoison.com

So where will I get the download from?

There are plenty of mirrors around. Just google greenpoison rc6.1

  18. #697
Yeah I only noticed that. I found one at Redmondpie and I am currently booting up my phone now : )

Edit: Might be a dumb question but can I safely restore the backup I did on Itunes before I downgraded it?

Yes you can, just don't do the UPDATE to 4.3.1.
If iTunes aks you for update to the new iOS just say NO
