    Default Iphone 4 down grading
Several people including me are having problems with iphone 4 with random rebooting after jailbreaking with jailbreaome.com jailbreak!

The ones I know about are on 4.0.1

I am requesting help with a tutoial on how to downgrade for Iphone 4!

It would be nice if there are both Windows and Mac but please keep them seperate!

I personally have PC and Mac but I for one am still learning the Mac!

I know things are different now with the new Itunes!

Several of us are asking for help but it will help all of us here at ModMyI

    Thanks for any help!

It's the same process as downgrading a 3GS.

    Thanks for the reply!

I thought the same thing but the new Itunes gives unknow error before starts restoring!

I have tried the host pointing to to Saurik's server and also tried the local host but I keep getting the error before the restore starts!

Any help on what I am doing wrong would be much appreciated!

    Thanks again!

That's odd, it should be exactly the same. What does it say when it errors?

The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be restored at this time
because the iPhone software update server could not
be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.

    Please try again later

The first time I jailbroke it with jailbreakme.com I had the problem!

I tried to restore to current 4.0.1 and could not without changing the host!

I have restored to 4.01 twice and have jailbroke twice!

I do not have the problem when restored to stock 4.0.1 as left it that way for 24 hours and other than when asleep it never rebooted not once!

    Thanks

You mean you couldn't restore to 4.0.1 without editing the hosts file? Did you have to edit it to point at saurik's server? If that's the case then something is deffinately wrong. 4.0.1 is the current fw so you should be able to restore to that without changing anything. 4.0 you would have to edit the host file to saurik's server. Does your host file have entries in it for both a local server and saurik's? Just out of curiosity if you get rid of any references to gs.apple in your host file and then try to ping gs.apple.com, what do you get back?

I have my shsh's for my iphone 4 both 4.0 and 4.0.1 stored on Saurik's server and on my computer and I have tried pointing to each seperately by changing the host files each time! I still get the error!

I read on another post that with the new itunes you oould not restore to stock without editing out Saurik's server or local host server something that apple has changed with the new itunes!

I didn't know about this, but if it's true that's a very bad thing.

Are you able to ping gs.apple.com with an unchanged hosts file?

If I # out Saurik's server and also # out local host I can update to stock Apple 4.0.1

I would like to know if anybody has been able to downgrade 4.01 to 4.0 on the Iphone 4 and if show how they did it!

    Thanks

I am sure they will be a way around it! Maybe its just me!

I have another guide that I want to use which is for Mac but some of it doesn't make since!

I am an old ms-dos and Windows person trying to learn the Mac but it is hard for me! Its kinda like the old MS-Dos and I have forgot most of the dos based stuff but will keep trying!

A lot of the guides that I have read is for both Windows and Mac and sometimes its hard to understand which one they are talking about in the guide!

Area51crypto, are you still having issues with downgrading? Do you by any chance have the wifisync client installed on the computer that you were trying to do the downgrade on?

    Thanks for the reply.

The reason I was wanting to downgrade was because my iphone 4 jailbroken was randomly rebooting!

I open a thread and got only reply that a person was having the same problem and the other was that something was wrong with the iphone take it back.

When the iphone 4 was stock it never did this.

Another person open another thread after mine and got several replies.

The person who open the thread listed the apps he had on his phone and one of the other members compaired his list to the original poster and the only app they had in common was Cerebro of which I had also and upon uninstalling Cerebro my Iphone 4 started working perfect and even the battery life improved greatly.

So that solved my problem without downgrading!

As far as downgrading the iphone 4 its possible I just had problems but think they are now resolved!

One thing I have learned about downgrading and if I am wrong somebody correct me and this is on 3gs old boot rom you cannot shift restore on a pc or options restore on a Mac using the new Itunes using a custom ispw!

I just love PWNAGE Tool and don't know what is going to happen there. Probality you will only see like redsn0w in the future.

Mines an old bootrom 3GS and I haven't had any problems loading custom fw's even with the newest iTunes. I have however heard of problems doing restores when you have the wifisync client installed on the computer.

Would you share particulars on this as in host settings and anything else?

I haven't run into it myself, I don't use wifi sync. But I've heard of other people getting errors while trying to do a restore while it's installed on the computer. Some getting "ineligible for this build" errors whether hosts were directed to cydia or apple.
