Default How to Downgrade iPhone 3G
Hey, I have looked all over the internet to find a way to downgrade my iPhone 3G, with no luck. Is there any method around this problem of the: Incompatible firmware problem. I cannot get passed any step of restoring the firmware because the second I shift+click restore and hit the corresponding 3G 3.1.3 IPSW file, I Get the incompatibility error. Can someone please help me? Sorry if these are in the wrong forums.

which iphone does it say in the ipsw?

    iphone1,1
    iphone1,2
    iphone2,1

    ?

Because your probably using the wrong ipsw
The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

I have tried 3 already, surely it cannot be the wrong one.
This should be the correct one that I'm using, copy pasted from the filename.

    iTunes version?

  5. #5
9.2 as it says in all the guides. I'm going to try the older versions now.

Edit: Nvm trying tomorrow. Should it be an older version of iTunes?

Well no I meant just to make sure you were updated. The older versions won't work. I'll have to research this problem... Have you tried it on another computer?

Have you also tried downloading the firmwares from MMi downloads section? I found the ones here always work great.

I'll try it on another computer today.

I always get my firmwares from MMi.

Can you tell me the exact error message you recieve?

  10. #10
I believe it is the only incompatibility message there is:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored because the firmware is not compatible.

    Nothing?

to put your 3G onto 3.1.3 you need 2 things

    1. http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....8_Restore.ipsw

    2. PUT YOUR PHONE INTO DFU MODE OR IT WONT WORK, ALSO USE ITUNES 9.1

    sorry bout the caps

this this last night works like a charm

  13. #13
Yes Annie, it is ipsw, I can make a video showing you guys I guess.
And cadsii, I've tried all that before. Put it into DFU mode (I know because its on a blackscreen but iPhone recognizes it).
    I'm using iTunes 9.2, I'll try 9.1.

Could be a baseband compatability problem. Try restoring to 3.1.2

    ModMyi Forums - Downloads - iPod Touch 3G 3.1.2

Or just triple check make sure you are using the correct firmware for 3.1.3

Have they released the jailbreak in the app store yet?

I just tried all options in this thread, it still says it is not compatible.

Are you sure your phone is a 3g and not a 3gs? lol and you're just trying to restore to the stock firmware not a firmware done with sn0wbreeze or pwnagetool?
Have they released the jailbreak in the app store yet?

No, I was saying make sure you were restoring to a stock 3.1.2/3.1.3 firmware.

Not sure but maybe it's a long shot? Had my SHSH files saved recently by Cydia on my 3G. Do you have yours? Perhaps you should attempt to restore with the SHSH files. Cydia says I have 3.1.2 3.1.3 and 4.0 saved. Try with your 3.1.3 SHSH files if you got em?
