Default upgrade jailbroken phone to os4 then jailbreak it?
    Hi
I am new here. I was searching online on how to get the latest OS4 on a jailbroken iphone and found a TON of info. I want to be safe so hopefully you guys can help me out.

    Stats:
    Iphone 3Gs
    version 3.0.1 (7A400)
    Itune version 8.1.2.6
Jailbroken with redsn0w a long time ago.

How do i go about updating to OS4? and jailbreak it?
will i lose my contacts/apps/photos if i update?
can someone guide me step by step? or at least point me to the right direction?

    Thanks in advance!

create a custom 4.0 firmware with either pwnagetool or sn0wbreeze and restore to that, you will be jailbroken already by the custom firmware, you will need to sync with itunes before you do so that when you are done you will get your contacts, photos, etc back

if you have a mac use this guide iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.0]

if you have a pc try here iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones

the steps for both are pretty much the same

    i have PC:

so with sn0wbreeze link you posted there weren't really a walk through. Do i follow the pwntool walkthrough instead? and use their files but run it with sn0wbreeze?

no, you will use sn0wbreeze to build the custom firmware, the interface of both is similar so you can look at the pwnagetool tutorial to give you an idea of how sn0wbreeze works, found this tutorial see if it helps Jailbreak iOS 4 with Sn0wbreeze [Custom Firmware Windows] | Redmond Pie

if you are using official carrier then you don't need hactivation, if you are using unofficial then yes you need to hactivate it
