    Default 3GS Restore Issue
i have searched across many forums and threads and can't seem to find an answer for my problem.

My friend sold me his 3GS which he had jailbroken but had not updated to 4.0 yet. When he gave me his phone he reset all of his settings and information. When he did that, I got the stuck apple logo issue. I can get it into the recovery mode but now need to know if or how i can jailbreak it. He had Cydia but he said he did not back up the shsh files to sauriks server. so now i am in a tough position and I need some advice on how to proceed. i do not want to update to 4.0 through apple yet cuz then i wont be able to do anything. I have t-mobile btw. i cant update to 3.12 cuz he didnt back up his files. so please help me out and give me advice on how to proceed if i have any options.

also it has the old bootrom as it was bought on launch so i know it can be jailbroken but i dont know how to proceed.

if i update it through 3.1.3 it will update the baseband so I dont want to do that regardless if they still sign off on it.

create a custom 3.1.2 ipsw and restore to that, it doesn't need shsh's as custom firmware bypasses the signing process, or you can go straight to a custom 4.0, both of which will preserve the baseband for unlocking using ultrasn0w
