Default iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 New Bootroom - Jailbreak Not Working
    Hi,

    I have a 3GS 3.1.3 (New Bootroom) - Never Jailbroken before.

I recently tried the Spirit jailbreak, following a number of different guides.

It gets to the point where the iPhone reboots and the purplish screen comes up with the white progress bar the phone suddenly seems to jump back to the normal iPhone screen and there is no Cydia app...

    Any ideas? Im stumped!

    Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, which I hope I am..... You can't JB yet..... From everythign I've read a 3gs, new bootrom, never jailbroken, isn't jailbreakable yet...... I'm in the exact same boat and am waiting (as patiently as possible) for a solution....

    Got my info from here

    iPhone & iTouch Jailbreak / Unlock Matrix | jailbreakmatrix.com

Seems to say you can if you scroll down to the 3GS section.
Although your answer does make sense as I cannot see what I am doing wrong...

What version of iTunes are you using? I believe using 9.2 is not recommended.

New bootrom never before jailbroken 3GS phones cant be jailbroken. I think lol. I thought it only applies for iOS 4 but it could be true on 3.1.3 as well.

New or old boot can be jailbroken with spirit. Provided your on FW 3.1.3. If your on iOS4 it won't work.

Also, if your on itunes 9.2 download the fixed spirit for itunes 9.2. Google Spirit for iTunes 9.2.

    Will01 is correct

For some "strange" reason when I did the exact same procedure on my other laptop it worked..... O well

    All very good!!

    NEXT problem.....

Jailbreak works and Cydia is installed.
I open Cydia and it says I should update, so I do.
Once it restarts Cydia stops working (throws me back onto the homescreen after 1 second)

I havent installed SSH and when I try to restore apple want to force me to upgrade to 4.0!

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

I haven't used it personally but I have seen people talking about a windows app called Cyder that allows you to install Cydia packages via USB cable. This might allow you to then install OpenSSH and/or MobileTerminal so you can repair your Cydia installation.

    -----

Cydia probably crashed before it was finished doing something, this seems to happen more and more lately. The fix for this is to go to /var/lib/dpkg/updates and delete any files in there (probably 0001, 0002, somethingorother.tmp etc)

    Thanks for the info.
Downloaded Cyder but I cant seem to get it to do anything.

Any idea if I can use the Cydia restore? As it did take my SHSH before it crashed.

If it has your SHSH files, then re-jailbreak. That will fix it for sure.

    Have you rebooted the phone?

Reboot and try cydia again, it normally fixes these sort of probs itself after a reboot.

i havnt used spirit before, but if it installs rockapp then you can use that instead of cydia

It doesn't install RockApp but I know your thinking, it's one of the apps I install first, I don't use it because it can and has cause problems for ppl in the past. But on the rare occasion cydia messes up it can help you fix it!

    Thanks for the tips.

I have tried restarting the phone but that hasnt fixed it.

Didnt install Rock App either... Although is there a way to install it without using Cydia?

Well you could try that cyder app, altho im not sure about it, never used it myself.

Tried it but I think it needs a working Cydia to function as when I plug my phone in and boot up Cyder, nothing happens.

    Has anyone else used Cyder?
