Default If I Upgrade to iOS4, what happens to BaseBand/Bootrom/etc
    Hey all,

I have a stock iPhone 3GS running 3.1.2 and the old boot rom... not sure which baseband. It's never been jailbroken, unlocked, etc. However, I would like to preserve the right to do so, in case I want to sell it on Craigslist.

So, my question is: if I upgrade to iOS 4 via iTunes, what will happen to my baseband, bootrom, etc? Will I loose the ability to JB/unlock the phone? TIA.

You need to upgrade using a custom firmware if you want to jailbreak / unlock .

Ok. My iPhone isn't jailbroken right now, but it needs to be to install custom firmware, right? What is the best JB option? RedSnow? UltraSnow? Pwnage Tool?

jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2, if you have a mac create a custom 4.0 and restore to that, if not download one that was created with pwnagetool and restore to that, you will be jailbroken on 4.0 and can use ultrasn0w to unlock if need be
