Default 3GS JB 3.01 can I upgrade direct to 4.0?
My friend's 3GS iphone is still down at 3.0.1 never upgraded to 3.1.2
    It is Jail broken.
Can I restore straight to the iO4.0 custom_restore.ipsw I created in the new Pwnage 4.0?
or does it HAVE to be upgraded to 3.1.2 first?

Shift/Restore to a custom 4.0 and then set up as a new phone. Never restore from a backup. It sucks having to sync back over all of your data, but it beats having a buggy jailbreak that happens with a backup. I am not sure if you have to have the newest iTunes or not.

I restored mine from Back-up (after upgrading from 3.1.2 to 4.0) with no problems so far.
My question dealt with another 3GS old bootrom that is still in 3.0.1
Yes I have the latest iTunes and a Mac
