Default Please help w/1st Gen iPhone (2G). So many things gone wrong.
1st Generation iPhone. 2G as some refer it as.

I loaded 3.1.2 successfully after many attempts, then loaded Blackrain to it. Well when I went to turn the Wi-Fi on to download Blacksn0w to unlock the phone, the Wi-Fi was shaded gray. I tried many times to rest the network settings, then all settings, but still had no luck.

So then as someone suggested here, I download the 3.1.2 firmware from this site and reload it. So I did, however, now I can't successfully load the firmware to the phone. I keep getting an error code after like half an hour of trying to restore the phone. I believe it's 1002 or 1003.

So now the phone is even more useless than before.

I wanted the latest operating system/firmware on the phone that can be unlocked so that it can be used on the T-Mobile notwork.

    Can someone please assist me?

All firmware versions on the 2g (1st gen) can be unlocked...restore to official 3.1.2 and use redsn0w 0.9.2 to jailbreak and unlock

Is 3.1.2 the latest firmware for the 2G? I thought 3.1.3 was the latest firmware? Is there an unlock for it with the 1st gen?

The problem I have now is that I can't even successfully load the firmware file to the phone because I get the error code 1002/1003 (don't remember which one). It tries to restore for a half hour or so before the error code pops up.

I was going through the steps as if I was loading redsn0w to the phone, but I came to a point where I'm stuck.

It's asking me for the extracted binary code for 3.9 and 4.6 baseband bootloader. I have no idea what this is or what to do with it. Without it, I can't continue.

Just upgrade from iTunes to 3.1.3 directly instead of restoring.

Jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.4 (even if youre on 3.1.3 you need to use your 3.1.2 ipsw you downloaded to make it work so dont delete the 3.1.2 ipsw!!)

Are you sure that will work because I've read that once you upgrade to 3.1.3, there's no going back. Also, what do I do about the extracted binary code it's asking for?

Why would there be no going back? Its a 2G your unlock will always be there and you can downgrade/upgrade your firmware as much as you want. Hitting upgrade to 3.1.3 gives you a clean slate and you dont have to worry about restoring.

Upgrade your iTunes to the newest version (of course deleting all traces of the old iTunes before doing so) then hit upgrade. You shouldnt have any problems.

Ok...so I downloaded redsnow 0.9.4 and ran it, but I still come to a point where it's asking for extracted binary codes for 3.9 and 4.6 baseband bootloader. What do I do at this point?

    boot_loader.zip

    Download for missing files

    Run Redsn0w and try again

I'm guess that zip file was for Mac because I still can't seem to get it. I'm running Windows.

Try unchecking the unlock option. When finished jailbreaking, install BootNeuter for Cydia to unlock.

Haha same only with 3G phones--dont work much with the 2G's.

Can you explain the "extract binary code for 3.9 and 4.6 bootloaders" part? I was trying to read up on it and Im at work so I cant get in depth. Whats that stuff all about? Is that a jailbreak problem or a restore problem?

No, sorry I can't. I'm just a "user" of these things. I remember when 4.6 couldn't be JB'd for a while but that was back in the good ol' days when things weren't so simple as they are now.

I should really upgrade my 2G but,as Steve would say, it just works. And it would feel like abandoning an old friend nowadays anyway.

I'll see what June brings us all though.

Any joy by the way Maxvette?

I successfully jailbroke the phone, but the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is still shaded gray. Without the Wi-Fi I'm not going to be able to access Cydia to unlock the phone. I tried putting the SIM card in from my iPhone 3GS, but it just keeps searching for a network (as in it doesn't recognize the card). I've tried to switch the Airplane Mode off and on several times, but no luck.

Also, the version is 3.1.3 (7E18), however, it shows nothing for the Modem Firmware which is the baseband.
