Default 3GS 3.0.1(7A400) Modem: 04.26.08.... What to do??
    Hey guys,

So I just picked up a gem for a ridiculous price, and its on old FW and the older baseband, its also an MB model. MB716LL. Im keeping this phone for myself and I want to know the best way to JB/Unlock.

I was just going to update/restore to 3.1.2, then JB with Spirit then unlock with Blacksn0w. But Ive heard of some people saying if you have 04.26.08 you should try to preserve it for some reason. Should I?

In a similar situation myself. Does Apple still allow updates to 3.1.2 ?

    great webpage!

But won't 3.1.2 upgrade the baseband? (or are you saying the bb is not worth preserving?)

Are SHSH signature files required to install 3.1.2 ?

yes shsh's are required to restore to any firmware on the 3gs...if you want to update to 3.1.2 then either create a custom ipsw file will pwnagetool if you have a mac or google and download one that was created with pwnagetool...since u have the old baseband you can use custom firmwares which do not require signing by apple...it will also retain the 04.26.08 baseband which is unlockable with ultrasn0w...use option+restore(mac) or shift+restore(pc) in iTunes and point it at the custom firmware and you will be good to go

since you are unlocking make sure the custom firmware is "activated"
