    Default So long, now clueless
Well its been SOOOOO LONGGGG since Ive visited because I migrated from T-Mo to Verizon 2 years ago.
The local GSM companies just couldn't offer me any service better then poor.
Also I was interested in playing with new toys such as the Storm series, as well as my present device, a Droid.

SO with the rumors growing that Verizon will be getting the iPhone on network (YES I miss and will be first in line).
I decided to begin to start to re-learn the how to's, and whats been happening in the world of the iPhone.

That said I am now charging up my 2g iPhone which I restored to factory, and wipe so that my son could use it while on vacation overseas this past year.
The device is presently locked with version 1_1, 2.0.1, could be 3.0 since I restored for my son last December.
I found this file on my HD: I found this iPhone1,1_2.0.1_5B108_Custom_-Restore file, should I try to restore to the newest version?
My plan is to jailbreak and unlock my device so that I can use a prepaid T-Mo card that I have vegetating here.
I have a few questions like:
Should I update to the most resent software version?
How do I verify what version I have on my device since its locked now?
Does it matter what version iTunes I have on my PC, ( or Mac?
Should I assume that there's a new process to unlock/jailbreak the device?
Where should I go to re-educate to figure out how to and do?
What has changed that I need to be aware of when unlocking/jailbreaking (probably a loaded question)?

I already have noticed that I have forgotten a lot from what I have been reading so any thing that you could offer would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I think I can say that looking at this as a beginner probably would be the best place to begin until I get my head wrapped around this again.

Oh yeah anyone interested in a rooted Droid, Storm1, or Storm2 with hybrid OS?
    Starting to think about selling.

    Thanks again

2G iphones are easy. They can't be locked anymore because the baseband isn't updated anymore. These guides will show you how to get to the newest firmware and unlock it if needed. I posted the guide for windows and one for osx depending on which you want to use.
