Default Spirit Can't Jealbreak 3GS (Error Code: 1)
    Hi guyz!!
I知 having a bit of a badluck here
since I was not able to restore anyway to 3.1.2, I had my iphone restored to official 3.1.3 two days back..
The iphone is now in inactive state asking me to Activate it with the original SIM, which obviously I don稚 have
I understand that I can稚 unlock my iphone baseband yet, but atleast I wanted to have it up & Jailbroken

Today, when I知 trying to use Spirit I get the error

    INFO: Now listening for devices...
    INFO: read igor/map.plist
    INFO: Connected to the AppleMobileDevice.
    INFO: Version iPhone2,1_3.1.3
    INFO: Connecting to mobilebackup...
    INFO: Sending files via AFC.
    FATAL(__LINE__): Assertion failed (dl.c:197): 0 == (AMDeviceStartService(dev, service, &it, NULL)) (but it was -402653091)
    197
I知 on win7 x64 (iTunes 9.0.3) & have the compatibility option set up to win98 I知 logged in as Administrator
I tried Spirit on MAC OS X (iTunes 9.1) too giving me the same exact error..

    Any comments ?? suggestions ??
its been very frustrating for months now.

    Regards.......

I have the same problem! Did any solution occured by now?

I think that for Spirit to work, your phone has to be activated and in full working condition.

Sorry I can't help. Hope someone can help you get you fixed.

Correct. Spirit will NOT activate the phone and is only designed for people with valid contracts.

  5. #5
What's the point of jailbraiking then, if you first have to activate it?

  6. #6
Dang. I was SO looking forward to the Spirit Jb

I'm also getting the Code 1 Error. Stuck on 3.1.3/new baseband with AT&T, wich I dont have a sim for ofc =P

Got my 3gs in Feb, got to use it 1 day befor I updated it to 3.1.3 (Total Idiot, I know)

Guess we'll just have to wait untill Geohot pwns OS 4.0

Big thanks to Comex and all the Devs for making the software needed =)

Most of this applies to the iPad too.

Yeah I researched alot & consulted some good friends to know Spirit is useless for InActive phones.... that said, people with "Fresh" out of the box phones without the contract SIM are out of luck.. its not a proper crack but rather an intermediate relief for many....

We need to wait for proper PWNAGE tool for OS4.0..

    Default [Spirit] Stuck-on-spinning-wheel-or-reboot-logo? Read this
Let's put it together: You have restored in iTunes to stock firmware 3.1.3., or 3.1.2 with SHSH blobs.

If in restore mode in the end, activate first thing.
    http://modmyi.com/forums/3g-s-downgr...ml#post5218622
(there might be nicer tutorials but this one works like a charm - Mac/Win)

Device MUST be activated to use Spirit.

On Windows, set compatibility mode to Windows98.

    Jailbreak with Spirit, iTunes open.

    Close all other open programs.*

KNOWN ISSUE: It may happen to get stuck in reboot - on the Apple reboot logo or jailbeak screen
(device will appear in iTunes as if activated - don't panic, you're nearly done)
unplug your device from the computer and hard-reboot, possibly 3 or 4 times, be patient

DON'T PANIC ! It turns out that in these cases the reboot is slowered, but it will work.
The success is not up to how many times you reboot, it just takes time:
Leave your iPhone alone (2 hours, maybe less, I'm still gathering statistics).

Jailbreak will start over, device reboots jailbroken in seconds.

    * Most programs connect to port 80, just like the (redirected) Apple server we are using for the jailbreak.
The point of closing other programs is avoiding possible interferences.

Mine was stuck on the jailbreak screen. I unplugged the phone and I tried to hard re-boot 5 times now. Phone now gets stuck on apple logo. Please Help!

And now it's not recognized by itunes so I can't even restore it.

Be sure it works. Do it again, be patient, and don't panic !

I don't know if it's important, but I did not reboot in a row. I just left it besides and retried after a while. Several times like you.
    (it rebooted after 2 hours.)

    Don't plug it.

If you go back to Spirit you'll have an error message that's all.

There is no point of restoring anyway, the jaibreak is done. It's temporarely stuck in a slow-down REBOOT.

    Tell what happens.

Alot of people will go buy an AT&T prepaid phone so they can grab the sim card and activate the phone. From there you can use spirit and have your jailbroken iPhone

  14. #13
but the thing is if you go out and buy a prepaid phone for the sim card don't you have to keep a balance on it so the sim card doesn't get locked out? just curious.. that's all haven't had a prepaid phone for a long time now lol.

So glad that spirit came out in time cause I had to do a restore on my phone (was at 3.1.2 firmware JB'd with blackra1n), and downloaded a bogus app 'xtreme preferences' and it messed up my settings page once i uninstalled it lol.

10+ hard re-boots later and my 3GS is once again fully jailbroken. Thanks rocky.

you only need the ATT sim card to activate one time per complete restore.
One its active you can take the sim out, and the phone will work as an ipod touch.
If you know someone w/ ATT sim ask to borrow it for a min.

Please read further up in this thread
This seems to happen when other programs (port 80 connections) are open.
    Don't panic.
    Don't replug.
    Try LATER.
It's normal that iTunes doesn't see your phone as it is rebooting.
    It WILL reboot.

Port 80 connects to the Apple server which is redirected to saurik's.
Most programs use it, and these interferences can slow down the reboot; so better do not leave other progs open when using Spirit.
(I'd like to know which programs create this bug, by the way.)

On Mac, port 80 connections can be closed temporarely using Little Snitch, dunno for Windows, sorry - close everything else.

IF YOU FOUND A WAY TO GET OUT OF YOUR TROUBLE
I do NOT understand why you do not post your solution here but ask people to email you... instead of sharing something useful.
