Default Help a newbie out with a virgin 3Gs?
I know I should read and search the forums b4 posting such lame questions, but I'm a newbie, anxious to get going, and don't want to mess up this virgin.

    model: MC149C
    version: 3.1 (7C144)
    Modem Firmware: 05.11.07
    carrier: fido 5.0

I want to jailbreak this baby. Unlocking would be a nice byproduct, but not necessary as I just signed a 3yr contract.

    Thanks to those who reply...

I forgot to mention, my PC OS is Win 7 Ultimate and iTunes is 9.1.0.79
(No, I didn't take the update offered to 3.1.3 - i made that mistake on the first one I bought, then returned it to the store to upgrade from the 16Gb model to the 32Gb as an excuss, lol, i really did want more memory anyway)

you can use redsn0w to jailbreak...after that if u want to update to 3.1.2 you will need to google and download a custom 3.1.2 ipsw created with pwnagtool and Shift+Restore to that to update it...u can use blacksn0w rc2 to unlock but I wouldn't if u didn't need to...can sometimes cause problems

So I don't have to update firmware to 2.1.2?
I'm wondering why I would update, what benifits are there? It seems hard to find a good f/w download that will work for Canadians using Fido.
