    SORRY FOR THE POOR QUALITY!....
Ah, that's the name there. When you set up your phone, you type in a name for it. I guess the guy called his phone 3GS 8GB.

Thank you for that!...However, I was told it wasnt worth doing it since Apple is not signing 3.1.2 any longer. I would be happy with 3.1.2!

Yay me! I am going to try it...Im scared as hell, but darn it I want some apps!..LOL

Well, since it's a 3G, you can just download the 3.1.2 firmware and then shift-restore in iTunes and point to the downloaded firmware.

You can download official firmwares here: iPod and iPhone Firmware Download

You can also make a custom firmware and restore to that. It's really up to you what you prefer and how much time you want to put into it.

By the way, the signing process is only for the 3GS, so you don't need to worry about that.

I've tried that but it kept saying that the firmware was incompatible....

The name of the file you downloaded should be: iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw

Your are going to need to edit you host file on your computer before you can restore custom firmware!

on a 3g and old bootrom (iBoot) 3gs there is no need to change the host file to restore to custom firmwares...it only applies to official firmwares and doesn't apply to the 3g at all...only the 3gs as this is the only phone that requires firmware signing and only on official firmwares not custom firmwares
