Default Any way back from an accidental 3.1 upgrade on a 2G?
    Hi,

In an idle moment a friend of mine has upgraded his jailbroken / unlocked **2G** iPhone to 3.1 and tells me he's now lost both the unlock and jailbroken-ness. I haven't been able to check the phone myself.

Is there any way back for him? Can he DFU-update the phone back to 3.0 / 3.0.1 ?

I seem to recall from dim & distant past that 'downgrading' the OS was an issue as the installed baseband would be newer than the older OS was expecting to find. But I could be wrong...

    Thanks in advance.

    Steve

You can go back with no problem as the baseband don't get upgraded on the 2g anymore, only 3g and 3gs.

    That's great, thanks.

So will he need to be in DFU mode before attempting to apply the earlier 3.0 firmware? i.e; do you think iTunes will complain if he hooks up his 3.1 2G iPhone and uses Shift > Restore to choose the older 3.0 ipsw file ?

    Thanks again,

    Steve

    That should work fine.
