It's about capturing the ibec and ibss file to use for future jailbreaking. Without these files, supposedly you can't jailbreak after 3.0.1

Is there a tutorial on capturing the ibec and ibss files myself? I read the dev blog and all it said was that surely someone would be nice enough to write one heh.

There are several tutorials, one of which is on the dev team's site.
Google it... there is a "Grabber" program that helps in this process. But... You have to DFU restore your phone to get these files manually. This way from Jay, does it without doing a restore.

So the ECID he retrieved from our phones contains the ibec and the ibss? I wonder how we get the copy from him into our possession?

All I've seen so far from Jay is that he is storing the info on his servers for now. I am sure he will come up with an app or tutorial on how to get the files for ourselves at a later date.

Like I said above, Jay seems to be planning on a method for us to retrieve the files.

yes this is only for the 3G[S] if you want to do it manually on windows google ECID Grabber put the iPhone in recovery mode(turn off phone and hold down the home button and don't let go untill you see the iTunes logo...Then run the Grabber make sure you tick the box that says auto download then just save the file somewhere..I email it to my self so I'll always have it

I saw this as well, I'm wondering how it's supposed to work.
as far as I know, the ECID does not contain the IBEC and IBSS, it's rather an alternative to them. well, to be on the safe side I captured my IBEC and IBSS and let cydia capture my ECID. I suppose that you can somehow get them from your pc at a later time by, for example, entering your devices serial number. seems like a good method to me. I wondered what I would do after a HDD-crash for example. Fortunatly for me, I have a laptop where I can store a backup of those files.

    Default clarification?
so after reading lots of posts I confused myself and got scared and just followed the Iclarified tutorial to get my ibec and ibss file. However I follow it like it said and used the 3.0 FW. Is that ok? I was using 3.0.1 and using red snow to jailbreak it but now since I got the files I figured I should not update to 3.0.1 for fear that it might overight the ibec and ibss files I pulled off the phone during the 3.0 fw dfu restore? Should I just leave the phone jailbroken with 3.0 until the dev team releases a solution. Oh and by the way...interestingly enough, cydia still says my phone is on file from when I did it earlier today before the firmware reinstall to 3.0 Can someone clarify this for me though? Is it cool to leave it at the 3.0 fw until they release 3.1 and the dev team comes up with a solution?
