ok i got this iphone 3g today and i want to jailbreak it....i got the software to do it and all....

i think this is the problem...i updated the firmware to 3.0.1 without saving it to my pc so therefore redsnow can't locate it....

i've tried to download the firmware from the web and all of them are corrupted or redsnow won't recognize it....

i've restore the iphone 3 times "like a new phone" and nothing...

    Welcome to MMi,
Using XP or Vista. you need to open "My Computer"
XP - go to the top menu and select options > Folder Options
Vista - Top left button that says Organize > Folder and Search Options
In that window you need to click the " VIEW " tab on top.
NEED TO SELECT " SHOW HIDEN FILES AND FOLDERS "
Then unclick the option to " hide protected operating system files "
Once that's done click "apply" then ok and exit out of the window.
    Then go to this dir
    users > "USERNAME" > appdata > roaming > apple computer > iTunes >
and the folder holding the downloaded file will be there.
If the file extension is .zip, rename it to .ipsw

Easy, now open Cydia and install winterboard. Then all the themes you download will go there. Choose what you want in winterboard and you good to go.

Read this. It will explain a bit more on what Cydia can do.

Most themes that you download will have a wallpaper. What you really need to learn is how to SSH into your phones file system. This is done easily with an SSH client like WinSCP (wifi) or iPhonebrowser (usb). You will be amazed at what you can do then. Both are free and with a simple Google search.
Here's is some info on SSH.
