Default how do i remove purplera1n and jailbreak using redsn0w?
i was one of the anxious suckers to jailbreak my iphone 3g s using purplera1n but now, i want to be able to jailbreak using redsn0w...

    how do i...

    1. remove purplera1n w/o loosing anything on my iphone?
    2. upgrade to 3.0.1 and then jailbreak to redsn0w?

i'd really appreciate any pointers here...i really would!

    thanks!

I don't know what the "official" method is, but I was on purplera1n RC2a, updated via iTunes to 3.0.1, and then re-jailbroke with redsn0w. All my standard AppStore apps were just as before with saved info. Needed to re-install all JB apps, but they still had their saved info when started. No issues so far.

Always “Restore” never “update” an update will mean you lose all your space where your jailbreak apps were installed. The files will be present but no longer available

ok now i'm confused (and please forgive my ignorance)

do i backup my iphone before i restore?

if so..do i then update to 3.0.1, use the backup i made and then jailbreak?

I'd backup all data (music, pics, vids, contacts) and do a restore from backup... provided you have a previous backup

if you sync with outlook or mobileme that should take care of backing up all contacts/cal/notes etc.
just sync pics/vids manually and you are all set.

What would you suggest I use to back up my contacts, text msgs...etc?

People have problems using a backup from iTunes with 3.0 right?
