Thread: Using an unlocked AT&T 2G outside the US?

Default Using an unlocked AT&T 2G outside the US?

    As I understand it:

    MA712LL is an AT&T iPhone 8gb

    MB213B is an 02-UK iPhone 8gb

    I'm trying to use a PWN'd (unlocked baseband) MA712LL / AT&T 8GB 2G in the UK with a UK Vodafone SIM.

Is that going to be possible?

Unlocked iPhone can be used on any GSM network. I use an sim card unlock from Unlock iPhone 3G - Instant Unlock any iPhone. Incl 2.2.1 because I have 2.2.1 firmware and it works for me when I travel to Germany. This is the whole point of unlocking - to be able to use your iPhone everywhere.

Thanks for the response. Although I was thinking more along the soft unlocking path. i.e; can I take an AT&T 2G iPhone, use Pwnage Tool to unlock it and use a UK SIM here in the UK.

    Thanks again,

Hey Steve, the answer is yes, as the soft unlock is even better.

Thanks. I'd heard talk of a few people seeing "Network Restricted" when using an imported (US) AT&T phone in the UK with by definition a non-original SIM.

I guess this could be some kind of IMEI restriction? It's possible one person had a stolen/barred phone but I've seen this subject of "Network Restricted" cropping up fairly often (2G phones)

    Thanks again though,
