Default Help with new iPhone 3G
So i recently purchased a white 3G and it got shattered on the highway

That one had 2.2.1 (i upgraded like an idiot)

I am using T-Mobile I had a RebelSim but that SUCKED!

So i just bought another BRAND NEW iPhone 3G 16GB White.

    My question is:

I need to upgrade to 2.2 ONLY and get yellowsn0w.

How do I go about doing this as i have all the old iPhone info and it will automatically sync and possibly upgrade.

I need links to where i can get this new one up to 2.2 only! and not upgrade! Do i have to uninstall iTunes?

    Someone please help!!!

you can connect to iTunes and sync with out upgrading.

You can use a custom ipsw, made by PwangeTool.

The tool is, but you can still use a custom ipsw made by the pwange tool.

Take a look at this file...Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!

so once i download that custom firmware, where do i put it so i know it is the one that upgrades to my iphone?

  20. #13
put it on your desktop and then put your iPhone into DFU mode and shift+restore. It will then ask you to locate that firmware

dang you guys really know your stuff. i had a question too i never thought about til now. what if i already jailbroke my 3G and i got it full of stuff that i did myself (themes) but it's on 2.2 is it worth downloading that custom firmware and going through the whole jailbreaking process again. i'm on TMo with 2.2 on a 16Gig. like i said i've got a ton of stuff on it and i'd hate to go through the whole process of putting it back on here if the 2.2.1 isn't really worth it.

I don't think 2.2.1 is worth it, but you may want to use the download only option in iTunes. Just to have the stock firmware on your machine. Rumor is that firmware 3.0 is coming on tuesday and you wont be able to get 2.2.1 with your iTunes after 3.0 drops

GREAT more things to worry about!

so your saying that if you have 2.2.1 you will no longer be able to access iTunes once 3.0 drops?

yeah that 3.0 sounds nice so i think i'll wait for it.if i don't download the 2.2.1 i'm sure i can find it on here even in six months from now, right? see i just upgraded from an HP to a Mac a little more then 3 months ago. and i LOVE it but i'm still getting use to the difference so i don't know how to make the custom FW's and all that stuff just yet.

no no, I'm saying that once 3.0 comes out you wont be able to get 2.2.1 from iTunes. You can and will be able to get it other places.. Don't even worry about it

na what he is saying is that once 3.0 drops, iTunes won't ask you to download 2.2.1 FW anymore instead it'll ask you to upgrade to 3.0. if you want 2.2.1 you'll have to find it somewhere else cause iTunes won't offer it anymore.all of which is after this 3.0 comes out of course. correct me if i'm wrong.
