Default Installer doesnt work..is it because im still in 1.1.1?
Yeahh it may seem weird that I'm still at 1.1.1 but thats when i jail broken it and i felt comfortable staying at that version...well last week i was able to download a few apps but today it says "cant find host..download failed" So any suggestions? I always thought upgrading to 1.1.4 wasn't much a difference but if it is then tell me wassup.

You should be thinking firmware 2.0.1.
You would lose installer as it is, but would gain the app store, cydia, and a very beta installer.
Other than that, moving on to 2.0 would give you the ability to:
    1. Move your icons around, think it came out 1.1.3, not sure though, tell me if I'm wrong.
    2. Be able to somewhat locate yourself via the maps application, again, think it came out 1.1.3
    3. Take screenshots, copying pictures off safari.
    4. Running out of things to say, but you get my point.

    Question, though:

I'm still on my jailbroken (not unlocked) 1.1.1 1st gen and I'd like to upgrade to 2.0.1. What are the steps I need to do? I mean, when iTunes asks me if I want to upgrade, can I just click okay? Do I need to do a restore first?

I'd say it's safe to upgrade. You'll lose all those apps though, and there's a rather tedious process that you'd have to go through to jailbreak 2.0.1.
