Unhappy HELP! Problem upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 (en route to 1.1.3)
    Here's the background:
    - iphone original 1.1.1, jailbroken and unlocked
    - on Fido network in Canada
    - working with Mac Leopard
    - reference instructions here

This morning, I attempted the first step in going from 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 by upgrading to 1.1.2 first. I carried out the instructions as follows:
    - download 1.1.2 firmware
    - download jailbreak.jar for 1.1.2
    - installed Oktoprep
    - started itunes and upgraded with the downloaded firmware
    - shutdown itunes
    - ran jailbreak.jar

The iphone then rebooted, and itunes started again, telling me it detected an invalid (or some other wording) sim.

From that point on, the iPhone is stuck with the "plug into iTunes" screen. When I do plug it into iTunes, it wants to restore the iPhone.

The phone kept restarting every few minutes with the same "plug me into iTunes" screen for about 1/2 hour. Now it is totally off.

Can someone please explain what might have happened? And how do I get back to a state where I can at least make the attempt again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when it gets to the "plug me into iTunes" screen after using jailbreak.jar, close iTunes and open iNdependence 1.3.2b...give it a minute or so and it should kick the iPhone out of recovery mode and you can see if the jailbreak worked or not. open activity monitor and make sure iTunesHelper or whatever that extra iTunes process is isn't running
