Thread: Changing IMEI to UK iphone

Default Changing IMEI to UK iphone
I bought my iPhone in the US last year and want to be able to use it with an O2 contract sim card here now. I understand that this won't work on an At&T phone because of the IMEI. Is it possible to change this IMEI using ZiPhone to a UK IMEI so that my O2 card will activate it? And if so, what IMEI should I use?
Overall, is this a safe idea? Have other people had success?

Just unlock it with Pwnage/ZiPhone and use the O2 sim, its actually illegal in the UK to change the imei of any mobile.

Yeah, I actually just realised that thanks. Didn't appreciate the fact that they may try and lock me up for it. Oh well, guess it's unlocking time for me then. Thanks.

Don't know how they may know. But not really wanting to risk it and face fines and 'imprisonment'. Regardless of how unlikely the severity may be, I'd rather not test them. Maybe the IMEI is broadcast when you connect to the network? And you may end up using an already used IMEI by accident... I don't know. Just think I'll be better off unlocking the new 2.0 software when it's available.
