    i think its under /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration and preference.plist

...quite sure this is it..let me know if it works

That is correct. That is the first thing I did with my older iPhone that has no data. Just search for "wap.cingular" and change it to something else.

    finially
a way to disable the edge,
    thank you

    i found the file /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration and preference.plist
    edited it,
found the section that said some thing like.....
    <key>apn</key>
    <string>wap.cingular</string>
    <key>password</key>

i change the "c" in cingular to "f"
    saved
    and shh to iphone.
this worked a treat now when i try to connect to edge it brings up a pop up window say need to config network (or something along those lines, cant remember)
    regardless is works.
i think the basic idea is to find the code with you edge settings in, make a small change to the code and it will thus disable the code.
    *****PLEASE NOTE******
!!!!!!!!!! i am no coder, and know very little about coding, so please remember, back up original plist. and dont listen to a word i just wrote.!!!!!!!!!

    but it worked for me,
    thanks gamezz
