Default My First Gen 1.1.4 iPhone will not jailbreak/unlock
I've had a 1st gen iPhone for about 10 months unlocked to work in Australia. It came with 1.02 and I have upgraded it to each of the updates up to 1.1.4 with success each time.

I just bought a new iPhone 3G and was going to give my 1st gen one to my mother and thought I'd restore it to wipe all of my crap out of it and also because the battery life seemed to be getting worse, so I thought a refresh might be in order.

Well now it's permanently stuck in locked mode waiting for activation. I have put it in DFU mode and restored it again more than once, but the problem is that regardless of whether I use Ziphone, iLiberty+, or Independance (All Mac) when the app tries to put the iPhone into recovery mode, all it does is reboot the iPhone. None of these apps are able to kick it into recovery mode.

I always had complete success with Ziphone before. I even loaded a 10.5.0 onto an external hard drive with iTunes 7.5 to try to get this to work, but it has the same problems.

I do have Parallels and WindowsXP, so I could try a windows method.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you first try with iTunes 7.7 and then with 7.5?

No I avoided iTunes 7.7. When I came home with my new iPhone 3G, I left iTunes at 7.6.2 and did the restore then. I wanted to be sure it would work as it has on a number of times before.

Have you tired to use another USB port & cable? Restart your computer with phone connected, this worked for me when i had the same issue as you.
