Default HOWTO: Jailbreak iPhone 1.1.2(UK edition)
Without the help of this guide http://www.modmyi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15837
I would never have been to unlock my iPhone, it was such a great help I re-wrote th guide to make it even easier to follow. All the credit goes to dilinator jailbreak iNdependence iPhuc devs and anyone who posted in that topic and I did not mention

    Things you will need:
    iPhone 1.1.2
    WiFi connection
    Jailbreak 1.1.2 - http://conceitedsoftware.com/iphone/1.1.2-jailbreak.zip
    1.1.1 restore firmware - http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....a_Restore.ipsw
1.1.2 restore firmware (not necessary but it makes it quicker) - http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....b_Restore.ipsw
iTunes 7.5 (anything above 7.3 is fine)
    iNdependence - http://independence.googlecode.com/f...v1.3_beta2.dmg
    Fetch - http://fetchsoftworks.com/Fetch5.dmg
    lockdownd - http://sherbz.com/iphone/lockdownd
    20 - 40 minutes

    -----------------------------------------------------
    Step 1:

    1. Download everything and move it to a folder on the desktop called iphone, and open iTunes.

    2. Reboot your iPhone holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10
seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark) and continue to hold the home button until
iTunes detects the phone in recovery mode.

    3. In iTunes force restore your iPhone by pressing and holding option key(alt) and then clicking on the restore button, a open panel should come up, now go to your iphone folder and select the 1.1.1 firmware (iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw). The restore should go through and an error may happen at the end a 1015 error. If you look at your iPhone you will see its in DFU mode.

    4. In order to kick the phone out of that mode, just open iNdependence. It should sort out it out give it a minute or so.

Note: To reboot your iphone hold the power and home button untill the screen goes dark and the apple comes up.

    5. Your iPhone should now be in emergency mode. Slide to unlock and call this number *#307# now use the x button at the top of the phone to delete everything and enter in 0, press call, press answer, press hold, press decline. It sounds long winded but it makes more sense when you do it.

    6. Push contacts, end call and you get called again, this time hit decline and you access one of the menus with favorites. you can now click on Contacts, Press the + to add a contact and type in
prefs://11 - as the web-address click save. and add another URL. This time:
    http://jailbreakme.com.

    7. Tap "prefs://11" and you are taken to your wifi settings! You can now select your favorite WiFi gateway.

    8. Go back to your contact list, by Dialing 0, push call, then answer, then contacts. then hit the "http://jailbreakme.com" web address you typed in.

    9. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click "Install AppSnapp". Safari will exit and you'll return to your springboard. Wait for the phone to reboot. You are now jailbroken. and are able to use Installer. Once rebooted your iTunes will open close it.

    -----------------------------------------------------
    Step 2:

    1. Launch Safari
    2. Visit http://jailbreakme.com, Scroll down to the bottom, click "Install AppSnapp". Safari will exit and you'll return to your springboard once again. Slide to unlock, you are now jailbroken!!. Woahh there hot stuff we aren't finished yet.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Step 3: Prepare your 1.1.1 device

    1. Launch Installer
    2. Scroll down to Tweaks (1.1.1)
    3. Select OktoPrep
    4. Click Install

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Step 4: Update to 1.1.2

    1. Connect your device to your Mac
    2. Launch iTunes
    3. Choose your device
4.(Alt) Option Click and select "iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw"
    5. Wait forever for your device to update
It may fail if it does Reboot your iPhone and try again.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Step 5: Jailbreak your iPhone 1.1.2
    REBOOT iPhone
    1. Connect your iPhone to the Mac
    2. Close iTunes
    3. Open Terminal
    Enter these commands in order:
    cd Desktop/iPhone/1.1.2-jailbreak
    ./osx
You will get a java application open click the ssh checkbox and leave the password as it is.
After letting the app run for ages! About 5 minutes it will ask you to reboot your iPhone do so and then click ok.

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Step 6: Go Fetch!

    1. Mount and open Fetch.
    2. Type in the ip address from the Phone, select SFTP and password alpine.
    3. Click Path and select ( / ). Then, usr/libexec.
    4. First things first. backup lockdownd file (copy to iPhone folder and rename lockdownd-Backup)
    5. Now its time to transfer our modified lockdown file.
    6. Then, reboot the iPhone (hold sleep button and home button untill you see the white light.. i mean apple).

We should now have a working iPhone *****!!!

    -----------------------------------------------------

    Extra bits:

    EDGE settings:

If you are on an O2 contract (untested with PAYG) then use this for EDGE settings (Settings->General->Network->EDGE):

    APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
    username: faster
    password: web

shabba - fantastic guide.. I'll be with an iphone on christmas day so will use the guide then, hopefully all will go well.. Could, for completeness sake, add the information about setting up the voicemail feature? (im aware that visual voicemail will not work, but ive read about the one click to load voicemail fix) That would be most helpful..

    Thanks

Default What am I doing wrong?
    Shabba,

Thanks for the guide. I've followed it about 10 times now, and each time I think I'm getting closer, but I still haven't gotten it right, yet.

I followed all your steps, but in my SIM card and I get "Incorrect SIM. This iPhone must be used with an approved SIM." This is the SIM card I use in my US-bought iPhone, but somehow I'm not getting this UK-iphone working.

    Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts?

just to make sure i understand... i can buy an iphone from a uk apple store, carry out the above, and then i will be able to use an o2 SIM i already have on an existing contract?

Yes, you are correct. You can purchase an iphone from the apple store (if you look on hotukdeals.com you can get a discount code 20) and jailbreak it using the above guide and then it will work with your 02 sim.

    I did exactly that.

One quick tip - as I understand it, you will end up with Edge enabled and no way to disable it. This could lead to major data charges. There are two options - 1)upgrade your 02 contract to unlimited data (7.50 per month), or 2) download "services" application which can turn off Edge.

Let me know if I can help further.

services.app or even iToggle.app will not allow you to turn Edge off or on on a 1.1.2 phone I am reliably told, can somone prove otherwise?

this means that once entered you can't change the settings and you can't turn it off so data charges apply and they are very hefty unless you have a proper o2 iphone contract or a £7.50 unlimited data package like I have. Not that I use edge much but accessing any non wap web page will significantly increase your data usage and lead to high bills , be warned......

Whilst reluctant to say I can prove it, I am on 1.1.2 (an 02 Iphone bought in the UK this week) and I jailbroke it, and was concerned about the data charges so downloaded services. It turned off edge, in that before then I was able to load web pages with edge on, and once I'd turned it off, I wasn't able to load the pages and it said "could not active Edge: You are not subscribed to Edge". Don't know how to prove it to you though!

I did all of this, but when I do ./osx, click on the SSH box and click "jailbreak" (the password is set to alpine) I get a popup error "an unrecoverable error was encountered durring the jailbreak. see console for details" and another popup error "Cannot launch iPhuc!"

Any thoughts? I have tested ./iphuc and it launches fine...
