Default 2nd post for help please.
my iphone was working completely fine but when i push the home button and the top button at the same time to restart it, it would restart but not be able to reboot and i'd have to restore the iphone completely.

now that i restored it i can restart my iphone using that method and it works so i'm thinking it was a app. i installed.

    any ideas?

i'm tired of spending hours getting my iphone back to normal then something like this happening and having to restore it again.

If you hold the home and power button at the same time until the phone reboots this puts it into recovery mode. (You will see an arrow and an iTunes logo) To avoid this you can hold home and power until the screen goes black and then let go of BOTH buttons and power back on. It usually takes about 2mins to boot up as this is a HARD RESET. If you accidentally put your phone into recovery mode you can use Ziphone, iLiberty or iDemocracy's advanced feature tab to boot the phone normally out of recovery.

    yes, i can.

    i have a 1.1.4j 8gb
my phones crashed 2 times where the screen looks like its reloading with the spinning circle but never stops and seems to just freeze. so i have to hold the home button and power button for 10 seconds until the screen turns blank.

then i try to turn the phone back on but it stays on the apple signal with the reloading spinning circle and won't turn on so i'm forced to restore the phone.

this has happened once when i turned summerboard off with customize and once when i was letting my phone refresh after installing the 1.1.4 compatibility patch and the SUID LIB FIX. so since it was 2 different programs when it froze i'm not sure if its any single program thats causing it..

You need to DFU restore and re-jailbrek and unlock. You have what's commonly called the SWOD - spinning wheel of death.

    DFU Restore Mode:
    Boot phone
Hold Power + Home until the screen goes BLACK
Continue to hold home and let go of power
Plug into iTunes (screen should still be BLACK)
Within 20 seconds it should come up in recovery mode
Let go of Home and hit RESTORE in iTunes.

ok i did DFU restore mode successfully.

what is the difference between a normal restore and DFU? i've restored my phone before but the SWOD was still there should DFU fix this problem?

and any idea why i got it to prevent it?

    thanks ALOTTT.

DFU is a more thorough restore... wipes out EVERYTHING! The SWOD is always caused by the Springboard plist getting re-written by Summerboard, or Customize, or vWallpaper, or Kate... in such a way that causes code conflicts. The phone gets "confused" b/c some of the file paths are broken and won't ever boot up until they are fixed. Most people (including myself) are not experienced enough to go in via SSH (assuming its active) and change the plist code back to normal. The rest of us have to RESTORE.

Well there's no easy answer to that question. Customize 2.0 is still in a Beta so that's always risky. Summerboard is the most stable but has the least features. Kate is awesome but i've heard lots of problems. Proceed with caution...
