It has been stuck on the opening screen for over 15 mins. I think its an installer problem and that I need to use Winscp and putty to fix the original problem. The problen that I have know is that I dont know the i p address of the phone and I dont know if I have ssh installed on the phone.

Put the iphone into "Recovery" mode.

    To do this:

Hold sleep/awake AND home button....when the screen goes black, let go of the sleep/awake button, BUT CONTINUE TO HOLD DOWN the home button. After a few seconds you should see a picture of a CD with a plug looking thing.

If it will go into "recovery" mode, then you can do a restore in Itunes.

It is not going into recovery mode. When hold down the home button, the screen just stays black.

Ummm...if the computer wont recognize the phone (through Itunes) and you cant get the phone to respond to "recovery" and/or, you can try using Ziphone to put the phone into "DFU" mode (which means the computer will have to recognize it)...then...

You will have to take it to Apple.

Chances are however, if they cant get it to respond, they will give you a new one.

turn off the phone by holding the sleep and home button for 8 secs, once the screen goes black, let go of both buttons. now hold sleep and home unti you see the apple logo, then let go of sleep and keep holding home until ur in recovery
This is the new way and should work

If I get into recovery and Itunes wants to restore, will I lose everything on my phone? And or will I have to unlock it again. I bought it unlocked and I have never unlocked it before.

    You will lose everything.

If you never unlocked it (which is for using the phone on another carrier, other than ATT), they why do you say you would have to again.

You will have to re-jailbreak and install everything again.
