Default My Iphone is fried! HELP!?
here's my dilema. hopefully somebody can give me some good advice...

    i live in vancouver, canada...

i bought an iphone in seattle at the at&t store at northgate a couple weeks ago...

got it home unlocked/jailbroke her using a method on hacktheiphone.com

phone worked awesome... no probs, nes emulator and all that..

now here is where things got ******... the other night i tried to use it in one of those white ipod boomboxes... i put her in the ghettoblaster and immediately it black screened. wouldn't turn back on and then the battery/casing got REAL hot ( to the point where i left it on the cold windowsill for 30 mins. ) it finally cooled down and now will not turn on or do anything... even when connected back with itunes and my g4.

    so here's my question.

Being that it is unlocked/modded and I live in Canada what are my options for warranty? also.. why the eff do you think it fried on connection?

    thanks mucho,
    sam

I think there's a marked voltage difference. I believe the output of the USB iPhone charger is 5 volts and the older firewire iPod chargers are 12 volts. voila!

    thanks for the voltage difference....

so as far as warranty goes...

can i ship it to apple usa and tell them that it got fried?

or will i have to go back to seattle and do it person?

how can I omit the part where i unlocked it and used it for a couple weeks?

what is a good avenue for me? any other possible explanations to give apple?

    thanks,
    sam

i ******* dont wanna drive to seattle to warranty this thing...

    thanks again.

I agree, or if you know someone here in the states you could send it to - they might be able to do the warranty claim.

    Just thinking out loud

If you are helped, use the button. It's a much better stat than a post count.

I hope you get another one soon, but I wonder if it would include 1.1.1

Nice to know, I plugged my iphone into my iPod firewire, and although it wouldn't activate iTunes, it didn't fry it. But it's good know won't do that again!

I caught my daughter trying to show horn my iPhone into her ipod karaoke machine. I had to explain to her the problems with voltage variations and it ended up being an opportunity to teach her and my phone didn't get 'fried' in the process.
