Thread: ModMyi Staff's Top 10 Cydia Tweaks

  1. #1
Default ModMyi Staff's Top 10 Cydia Tweaks

Here at ModMyi we see a lot of questions on "Whats the point of jailbreaking?" or "What tweaks should I install?" with new people to the jailbreak scene. We all have different opinions, but I thought it would be nice to get a list of the "Staffs Top 10!"

It was hard to really narrow it down to 10, and in no particular order this is what we came up with!

    1) Sbsettings- This one was hands down on just about everyones list. Sbsettings allows
you to have a toggle menu pull down from your status bar. Makes it easy to turn on
and off wifi and clear memory. Great thing about it is that its free and their are tons
    of extra add-ons.

    2) Barrel- This fun tweak allows you to scroll page to page and adds a cool effect such
as 3D, barrel roll, and many others. This tweak is defiantly worth checking out!

    3) iFile- This cydia tweak can be more than useful. iFile allows you to view your file
strings straight from your phone allowing you to edit and delete files and gives more
    customization for to the phone.

    4) Winterboard- I think everyone has heard of winterboard and is probably why a lot of
us started jailbreaking. This is the simplest and best way to add themes to your phone
    making your phone truly unique.

    5) Gridlock- This is a powerful tweak that allows you move your icons with the most ease
and place them anywhere you would like on the home screen and pages. Makes it
great for themes were you need to place icons in certain areas or just would like some
crazy looking pages. Whats great tho is no need for blank icons that leave that ugly
    grey shadow.

    6) MyWi- A tweak that allows you to create a mobile
hot spot with your phone allowing
you to share your iPhones data with your laptop or another wifi compatible devices.

    7) Notifier Pro- This tweak uses your status bar as a drop down to display any
notifications that you might have received all on one page!

    8) Live Clock- What a simple but awesome tweak this tweak just allows your alarm icon
to actually work and makes it a true analog clock.

    9) No Spot- Ever get tired of scrolling to far and getting that stupid spotlight screen?
This fixes that. No Spot completely gets rid of the spotlight screen making your
home screen the farthest screen you can get too.

    10) Cydelete- This tweak makes it painless to completely get rid of any unwanted cydia
apps that you may have installed but don't use or want anymore. Just simply hold
hold down the icon make it wiggle and hit the X.

And please guys feel free to voice your opinion, there is a lot out their and it would be nice to see what everyone else is playing with and using!

Really dumb question, but that's me and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I've been using SBSettings for a couple of years, but have never used it to clear memory? Can you explain how and what that does a little more. Is it like clearing cache? Are you freeing up RAM by closing apps?

Thanks in advanced and what's up with StealhBravo?? He hasn't tweeted in weeks. Hope all is well.

GREAT LIST. 2 that I absolutely cannot live without is BiteSMS and FolderEnhancer. The quick reply messaging and "compose anywhere" abilities from Bite are a must have. And also to have as many apps as you want in a folder or folders inside a folder is something Apple should have done right from the start.

Not really a necessity... okay, maybe it is:
The SNES, GBA, PSX, N64, etc emulators with support to use a wiimote will make your friends extremely jealous as they sit there playin tetris and ur collecting all 120 stars on Super Mario 64.

Ahh, very nice - thanks for the link. I just tried it and the Available Memory listed at the bottom of SBSettings went from 21MB to 45MB. Is Available Memory essentially available RAM?? Does that number seem normal. My iPhone 4 seems to run fast enough to me, but that might be because I mess around with my sons 3G and 3GS too which are painfully slow. I'll check their Available Memory tonight.

    Faster is almost always better!
I thought my carrier was bad til I got a new web host

    No love for LockInfo?

  11. #10
    Edited list:
    (1) REMOVE 'live clock'
    uses unnecessary resources
    (2) REMOVE 'notifier pro'
use 'lockinfo' instead, WAY WAY BETTER
    (3) REMOVE 'mywi'
useless if u don't have an unlimited plan, & if u do use this with one, u won't have it long cause ATT will quickly detect it & switch ur plan, 'pdanet' is supposed to be better but I'm too afraid to jeopardize my unlimited plan.
    (4) ADD 'bitesms'
This should always be 1st tweak installed after jailbreaking. NO BRAINER! *If u could use only one jailbreak app, 99% of people who txt regularly will choose this app!
    (5) ADD 'pandora skip'
    unlimited pandora skips!
    (6) ADD 'call bar'
incoming calls don't take over screen, small dropdown box appears asking to accept or decline calls. VERY GRATEFUL for this app.
    (7) REMOVE 'winterboard + gridlock'
slows down phone. themes make phone look pretty but can make getting to apps VERY inefficient, frequently taking an extra scrolls and/or swipes to get to apps

    Now.
    That's better!
Nice, cleanly running, efficient phone. *If u want to customize ADD 'springtomize'!

DreamBoard should be on there. You could remove WinterBoard, GridLock, and Live Clock if you use DreamBoard.

And when I'm not using DreamBoard I would say I use Weather Icon way more than Live Clock.

Cydia really needs a "Top 25" or "Most Popular" type of sorting like the App Store. "Top Paid, Top Free, Top Grossing" that would REALLY help sort the gold from the bronze apps... or dirt for that matter.

Awesome Thread. I've got most of these. I was wondering if they were still going to port android on the iPhone or did they give up on it.
