    Have you tried restoring?
This update was the most ideal one yet for me, once it was downloaded it took literally 4-5 minutes to get from 4.0.2 to 4.1 and hit lockscreen IDEAL!

Sent from my iPhone using ModMyi

    iPhone 3G 16gb white - 3.1.2 jailbroken

    THANKYOU ONCE AGAIN GEOHOT!

are you sure you're in DFU mode?
The screen should be Black. No itunes logo, no usb logo just black, like it was off.

if you previously edited your host file to point at Cydia, could that have anything to do with it?

My device has never been jailbroken, and rest_easy I know what dfu mode is ive been jailbreaking my 3gs since 3.1.2 not long, but long enough to know what dfu mode is. I have tried everything dfu mode, shift restore

How far in the process does it get before you get that error. If near then end it might be worth downloading tiny umbrella and when you get that error use tiny umbrella to kick it out of recovery.

Um yea wow, I am half retarded, It was connected to Saurik's server via the HOSTS file, it was still setup as if my old iPhone was being used. Sorry for wasting everyones time.
