Default What actually happens during jailbreak?
    Hi!

I would love to know what actually happens during jailbreaking with, say, redsn0w. If I pick the cleanest install possible (without cydia or anything), does anything get installed? Or is it just a bootrom patched?

    Thanks for your answers!

It allows the read and right of apps without apples permission. So basically, it allows you to install apps u make yourself, not from the app store. I guess that makes it a patch

You're asking an extremely technical question. Are you wanting to know about specific code? Every single jailbreak uses a different exploit. The first ones were very low level in the bootrom. The last one from comex and the new one about to come out are using an exploit found in one of the apps. Essentially it uses that exploit to crash the system... work it's magic... and have the ability to run arbitrary code which ultimately gives you SSH ability and 3rd part app installation such as Rock and Cydia.

Great, thanks! So, jailbreaking itself doesn't involve installing any software? You know, I want to run as clean as possible, only with root access enabled. I don't need Cydia or anything right now.

Correct.. then actual jailbreak process doesn't install any software per say. It patches the firmware in a way that allows root access.
