Default [HELP] Unable to Restore Iphone 3GS 3.1.3 5.11.07
    I have a 16GB iphone 3GS which was loaded with a custom firmware 3.1.3 with baseband 5.11.07.

I wanted to delete everything so I went ahead and pressed "Erase All Content and Settings".

Now i'm stuck with the apple logo and spinning wheel and after a while it reboots and the same thing happens over and over again.

I went ahead and created a custom firmware for 3.1.3 in pwnage tool and tried to restore with the custom firmware in itunes, but itunes keeps showing the 1604 error!!

Please tell me what to do....

Try putting the phone in recovery mode and then load the CFW.

yup, i tried doing it under recovery mode, but gives me the 1604 error.

I also tried doing it under DFU mode, it gives me the 1600 error.

You have to be on a jailbroken firmware to update using the custom firmware.

You can use the iPhone Dev Team's method to prevent your baseband from being updated.

Unless, of course, you already have your 3.1.2 SHSH Blobs backed up. If you have them backed up, you can just restore back to 3.1.2 so you don't lose your unlock.

@mitchell209, Thanks a lot for the link. Big thanks! Now my next problem is activation as I dont have the official carrier sim which is Softbank from Japan.

I plan on purchasing a Softbank sim, but can I use any Softbank sim whether still functional or not to activate the iphone?

It has to be functional. You can't just put in a dead SIM to activate it.

Hi Wattocs - I am in the same situation where I did a restore to custom firmware 3.1.3 with baseband 5.11.07 but I keep getting Error 6...Can you please tell me how you were able to get out of this exactlY? I am stuck and need help as the phone just shuts down and goes black after the error! I think I am stuck in DFU mode with error 6 now. I really appreciate it.

Error 6 is expected with the custom firmware that you made with the link
(Preventing baseband update as a last-ditch effort [iPhone Dev Team])

After the error 6 you will be on a recovery loop, simply use rslite or irecovery to get out of the loop and that's it.

    Next is activation.

iRecovery didnt work for me. I will try rslite tonight. What did you use?

    WRONG

I used a never activated AT&T SIM to activate my iPhone, so an unactivated Softbank SIM should activate it so you can jailbreak with Spirit
