Thread: Restoring from a custom firmware with 1604 error.

Default Restoring from a custom firmware with 1604 error.
I'm trying to restore my 3gs iphone (blackrained and not working now) with a custom 3.1.2 firmware that I made in pwnage tool for mac.

I keep ending up with the 1604 error in itunes on my mac. Restarted computer and changed usb ports.

My iPhone would not unlock after using blackrain so i tried to restore through itunes with a 3.1.2 fw on my computer, which I found out to not work. Then I made a custom ipsw to restore from. Still not working.

    Any advice??

    THANKS!
    Kevin

First of all, make sure you can actually use CFWs as the bootrom of the phone needs to be the old one.

Second, don't put your phone in DFU or recovery mode when restoring to the CFW, just have it fully booted and sitting on the homescreen (springboard).

well i cant turn on my phone to see the springboard right now. its a tethered blackrain jb, btu today blackrain would jb it. After i clicked "make it rain", the phone goes into a blackrain loop.

That you have a tethered jailbreak means you have the new bootrom. What this in turn means is that your phone can't use custom firmwares at all.

    Use a different computer.

Oh.....will teach me to read more thoroughly

Aside from that, error 1604 can be corrected by switching PC's alot of the time.

So is my only option to restore my iphone 3gs from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3?
But I need the unlock. How can I get past blackrain boot loop though?
