Question iPhone capacity DECREASES even when removing themes / addons
    Hi all.

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section but can anyone tell me why the iPhone capacity decreases even after I remove certain themes?

    For example:

    1. With my device plugged in to the pc and iTunes running, my available specs according to iTunes are:

    --- Space Currently Used ----
    Audio - 3.55GB
    Photos - 64.9MB
    Apps - 801MB
    Other - 12.5GB
    Free - about 12.7GB
    -----------------------------

    2. Whilst I am still connected to the pc, I begin to remove some themes and addons like sliders, battery themes etc and whilst I am doing this, iTunes shows my "Others" capacity slowly increasing with each item I remove. My question is, shouldn't the "Others" capacity DECREASE because I am REMOVING stuff from the phone, rather than increase?

After removing stuff, this is what iTunes shows me

    Audio - 3.55GB
    Photos - 64.9MB
    Apps - 801MB
    Others - 13.07GB
    Free - 11.87GB

As you can see, there's more Others being used and there is now less Free space, even though I deleted stuff. Re-springing and removing/replugging the USB cable didn't change this.

Very puzzling indeed so I'd appreciate any help you can give.

    Thanks!

yes my iphone is jailbroken and i have Rock installed (along with Cydia and all the usual suspects).

i read somewhere that this is being caused by a corrupt iTunes database but i couldn't find anything else on the topic, so i didn't want to go deleting the iTunes_Controls folder as suggested.

just fyi.. my Free space has now been reduced to 0 bytes.. all in one day. so now when i connect my phone to iTunes.. it says it can't sync and it can't read the contents of the iPhone.

    sigh... any idea?

    start fresh??

give it a wipe and set it up as a new phone then rejailbreak it, this time avoiding Rock like the plague and sticking with Cydia!

no probs dude, if you have SSH and the ability to use it try deleting the logs from Rock first located in

    /private/var/mobile/Library/RYP/logs/rockapp_2010-**-**.log (** = date)

and then try uninstalling Rock through Cydia,, might save you the hassle, but a fresh start is alywas a good thing

It just occurred to me that i'm running 3.1.2 on the iPhone. if I restore, iTunes will force me to update to 3.1.3 - which is not good if i'm planning to jailbreak it again.

I know this coz I just restored my wife's jailbroken iPhone.

    hmmm.. more research needed then.

You can use a custom firmware to rejailbreak 3.1.2 if you have the old bootrom.

Ok so when my Available capacity reached 0 bytes... I turned off my phone and left it alone for an hour (i don't think time has anything to do with it) and when i restarted, this is the info i got from Settings > General > About:

    Capacity - 29.3GB
    Available - 24.3GB

This means that somehow, some way, the problem has been fixed!!!

I've decided not to take any chances and i did the following:

    1. Delete /private/var/mobile/Library/RYP/logs/rockapp_2010-**-**.log (** = date)
    2. Uninstalled Rock via Cydia
    3. Rebooted the phone

Everything looks just fine and dandy now but I'm going to monitor this for the next few days and if it's smooth sailing, I'm sure a lot of people out there having the same issues would find this extremely useful.

Fingers crossed! Thanks once again dantehman1! Will let you know how it goes.

Rock pushed out an update a couple days agpo that fixed the problem. You did the right thing just to delete the log file as this was the only thing taking up space.

Thanks Poseidon79. I feel better knowing I've uninstalled Rock nonetheless. LOL.

Btw, you wouldn't happen to have a link to this announcement from RYP would you?

    Cheers.
