hey even though it might not be necessary, im going to go through the walkthrough that you posted because it looks really reassuring. it wouldnt hurt to do that would it?

OK GREAT NEWS!! i went through all the steps, and i now when i run "ping gs.apple.com" it replies with what it needs to be. im downloading the 3.1 firmware for the 3GS and from what the guide says i can have one of two basebands and one will cause me to restore twice. so basycally when the firmware is done downloading, i should be restored!!

..crap!! it says "This iphone cannot be restored at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable."

When you did the ping, it came back with 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com with 32 or 56 bytes?

no i responded with "Pinging gs.apple.com [127.0.0.1] with 32 bytes of data" just like the guide said it should.

i created the .shsh file for the ECID firmware of 3.1 since i was on 3.1.2 when cydia said it has the 3.1 ECID SHSH on file for me. should i try to get a 3.0 ECID SHSH?

Saurik server is 74.208.105.171 that is what you want itunes to go to for the ECID SHSH files, not 127.0.01. You need the 3.1 files with the 3.1 firmware.

  12. #47
ok so ill just go back through that hosts document and change 127.0.0.1 to the other one, right?

74.208.105.171 gs.apple .com needs to be the last one in line in the hosts section.

  14. #49
ok i did that and i tried to restore but got the 1611 error. now when i ping it goes to "74.208.105.171 32bytes" which isnt what its suppose to be when i ping it.

ok im seriously doubting that its possible to save my phone. if i cant im not buying another one. so if this one cant be saved, thats it.

ok could you show me how to do these steps?

    1) Find the shsh file you want to use (e.g. 1111111111111-iphone-3.0.shsh for 3.0)

    2) Open cmd.exe and cd
to the fw-umbrella-semaphore directory (cd Desktop/fw-umbrella-semaphore)

    3) Important! Disable any other servers using port 80 (usually webservers). TinyTSS needs to use it to create it's mini-webserver.

You don't need those step unless you planning on setting up your on server to store your ECID SHSH. You have said that you haved them on sauriks server correct? Which one did you save to his server?

  16. #51
i never actually saved anything intentionally. it was.. just there. i never saved it but i just noticed it one day i never knew that would make a difference.

If you can get the phone in DFU mode, you can then restore with stock 3.1.2 firmware, and then use blackra1n to jb again.

  20. #55
yeah but when i try to restore with 3.1.2 then i get the 1611 error message.
