Thread: Can't restore Iphone.

    Default Can't restore Iphone.
I have a Iphone 3gs and it was Jailbroken about a month ago. Everything was cool, I was streaming music through Iheart radio and I lost service. I closed Iheart and restarted the phone. Now it won't return back to the springboard just to the slider and says I can only make emergency phone calls. Also my service just says "Searching". When plugged into itunes it says my sim card is not inserted or I need a sim password. I tried using my wifes sim card out of her new 3g iphone but no dice. Also I tried to just restore the phone and it gives me error #23. I don't know what to do.

    Welcome to MMi,
Sorry to hear that your having problems.
Wow, to be honest with you I have never had much luck getting a phone back from errors in the 20's (especially 23) sorry. Don't want to totally bum you out.
You could try to run redsn0w again on it to see if that might work.
The only other thing I could tell you to do is to try to get the phone in DFU mode and try to restore in iTunes.
Here are a couple of ways to DFU.

    DFU mode
    INSTRUCTIONS
    Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it detects iPhone in restore/recovery mode.

    Alternative Method:
Step 1. Connect iPhone to USB then listen to the sound when it connects and disconnects.
Step 2. Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
Step 3. Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.

The guy at the Apple store said that I might have to try a restore like that and it might take a few attempts. What do you think would have caused the problem? Was it because it was Jailbroken? I'll try the redsn0w thing also. I didn't do the hack, my brother-in-law did so I'll have to have him do it.

No idea what could have caused it really. Obviously a file/s have become corrupted. The plus side is if it can't be restored you should be able to have it replaced. Good luck.

They won't replace it because they said it has been Jailbroken. The phone is only 2 months old. Sucks.

I would try, if it's stuck on that screen they will see the same thing and no signs of jailbreak should be visible. I just wouldn't say it was jailbroken and play dumb and see what happens.

Well unfortunately one of the features of hacking an iphone is the use of winterboard and I changed my slider, added battery percentage and font, so I would say I'm pretty much screwed. Well thanks for everything, I'll keep at it.
