    Question Broken GPS?
I've been having issues with my GPS chip.

In the Maps application, I constantly get the error "your location could not be determined" after the spinning wheel kept going for a long time.

My location service only works when I locate via Wi-Fi.

Tower triangulation or real GPS doesn't work.

I tried a new restore already, but I only caused myself pain for restarting all my settings from scratch.

    Any suggestions?

I'm going to travel 5 hours to Seattle in a couple weeks to visit the Genius' if no solution is found and try to explain why my 3GS is on T-Mobile, lol.

    Thanks in advance!

Are you using the phone unlocked or just jailbroken? If only jailbroken try a reset network settings. Also confirm that you are subscribed to a data plan on your account.

they wont help if your on tmobile. it violates the terms of the phone. as far as the GPS is concerned im not thinking its a hardware issue cuz it works on wifi. im wondering if it has something to do with your data service??? just an idea. ive never really worked with GPS issues before

If you install TomTom for iPhone - the GPS chip can verify the location with the software.
The Wifi location is a substitute as is the GSM/EDGE/3G location service.

The GSM location WILL work without Data Plan - as it correlates the GSM towers. But, it is very in accurate +-1 mile or so.

If you can't even get the GSM tower location to work I would think a restore is a good option. Pretty sure, but not 100, it is not a HW issue...
    Do hope that helps

did you try that on different locations? because gps doesn't work indoors. you should be under clear sky and try it then. also, maybe try different apps (for example gloBall will show your location ... roughly, but it will)

    I'm with T-Mobile and I am using Spooky's T-Mobile settings package with my $6 per/month T-Zones plan.

GPS actually occasionally works when I have an absolute clear view of the sky.

But it used to work indoors with Triangulation, approximation A-GPS that no longer seems to work. Any ideas?

I tried in Spokane and Pullman, but neither place worked with triangulation, tower based GPS.

    Thanks for your thoughts
