Default Roaming in the US for free
Hi I'm planning a trip to the US in August, I am from Canada and would like to know if there is a way to use my Iphone (make calls, Internet, send photos and videos) for free?

Rogers has plans like 1 cent per K, which can be expensive over the long haul if I want to send videos and pictures.

    Thanks

I would say your best bet is to unlock it and use a prepaid SIM card. You can pick those up at almost any store in the US. That way you would avoid roaming charges and still be able to use it like a phone with no long term commitment.

I'm a newbie at this. Once unlocked, can it be relocked afterwards? Will Rogers know I've unlocked my Iphone? Can it incur penalties from them?

How much is a prepaid SIM card in the US going for approx.?

Yes, just restore to a fresh 3.0 firmware.
    No and No.
I have no idea because I've always been on this family plan. I know that you would have to buy a pack that comes with a phone and a sim card, you would want to pick either T-Mobile or AT&T. Then I know that there are "minutes cards" that start around $15-20 USD.

Even a GoPhone will work... pick one of the Nokia's up from a local US Wal-Mart for around $10-15.
