Default Weird Problem after upgrading to 3.0
I want to sync my iPhone with Itunes to upload all my songs. However Itunes shows my phone to be nearly full. But rather than showing full of music it shows full of other.

on the phone it shows no data in ipod.

    What do I do?

If you've just been pressing the "update" button for the last few firmwares. It stores the old set of folders. Each time you "update" it takes up 500 mb of space. I know it sucks, but I'd try a restore.

I have only upgraded it once

I did the restore and am now syncing all my data again.

in Itunes the other section shows 306MB. What is other? My apps, music, photos all have categories. so what is in the other category?

Any thoughts as to what the 300MB of "OTHER" is on my phone?

The "other" is the OS software (and any 3rd party apps from Cydia etc I believe). 300MB is fine and roughly what it should be.

I'm pretty sure as I say that any other apps from Cydia etc go in there too as they're not recognised by iTunes, so if you add loads of 3rd party apps don't be surprised if it increases above the 306Mb. But I really wouldn't worry unless it starts to take over your iPhone.

    ***EDIT***

Out of interest, a "stock" restore of 3.0 OS for a 2G phone is 229.3Mb whereas my phone shows "Others" as 299.7Mb. That's with it being JB & UL, along with Winterboard, themes, additional ringtones/sounds, & other apps. Just to give you an idea.

    Thorty

You're probably better off looking elsewhere for an answer as this thread is about the "Other" memory being used.

However, as far as I'm aware Edge is only used to connect to the internet in a non-WiFi area. Also if you don't have a data plan then I don't think you can use Edge anyway (but I could be wrong). But do look/ask on another "Edge" related thread to get confirmation of that as it'll probably be missed on this one.

    Thorty,

Download sbsettings from cydia, it has an edge toggle switch that can turn it off.

If you read his post again he quite clearly states his phone is NOT Jailbroken - therefore he has no Cydia so therefore he can't download SBSettings.
