    Unhappy so...what now? (dead iphone)
I have an iphone that was updated to 1.1.1 when it was unlocked, so it got screwed. I've been searching about this but the only thing they say is "don't do it" or "you'll damage your phone"......Ok....i know that....but what know?....the iphone can't be turned on, or put in recovery mode....

Is there no hope for a dead iphone like this? or I just haven't looked enough?

And just to make it clear....its not "bricked" (cause it can't even be turned on)......its dead....black screen ...not responding to any mode....no itunes detection....no ziphone detection or changing to restore mode of DFU with ziphone....so...I don't know what else to try

does it charge up ? does it show anything on the screen ?

There are a number of posts showing that a hardware mod is all that you can do to sort some issues with the battery not charging. May be your issue ?

Im charging it but nothing changes....
and Im trying to put in restore mode or DFU while charging
    but nothing:S.....
I don't think the battery is the problem....cause the phone got screwed
when it was updated....now its literally "dead"

Well.....I didn't mess it up...a friend but whatever...
so.....to upgrade from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 (with an unlocked iphone)
you have to virginize the phone
    I didn't....I just updated to itunes....and boom...it was dead....
this wasn't yesterdayor today.............this was a long time ago....
but ive been searching...and apparently....if its bricked...you can fix it
by restoring to 1.1.3......but if it dead.....??? what then???
no one says anything about it

Sounds to me like the very definition of 'bricked'.

    No....its not bricked....according to what I've read....
Bricked means an iphone that has no Sim capabilities
Mine is dead....and can't even be turned on.....
come on...Im I the only one with a dead iphone???

Bricked means dead, people have adopted the term to easily describe their mistake of updating an unlocked phone... just take it back to apple...worst thing they will get it working again and see that you unlocked it and void the warranty... but atleast they will make it work or give you a new one.

Personally, if you have an Apple store near you, try setting up a pay as you go plan on AT&T, then go to teh Apple store and make up a good story about how it broke AFTER you activated it with AT&T or something along those lines.

Have you tried perhaps a different USB cable? Maybe you have a bad cable... Another idea, click and hold the home button, though it is off, and connect to the pc. Wait at least a before releasing the home button.
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!
