    Default Activation without AT&T sim
    Hello everyone

New to this forum (new to Apple products!) but what a great site this is.

I bought an unlocked iphone on ebay (What an idiot, right?). Problem is that the touch screen doesn't work and the guy I bought it off is not responding - so I guess I've been conned.

I restored the iphone to the factory default and took it to the Apple Store. They said that if the iPhone is activated they can swap it but I don't have an AT&T sim.

How can I activate my iPhone so that the Apple Store will swap it?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated

Apple is full of crap, and their warranty is technically not contingent upon activation. Ask them to see the warranty agreement :-) If you don't want to fight with them buy a pre-paid phone/sim card and use that to activate the phone.

Poseidon79: thanks for your help - that's a lot more encouraging than I expected. I'm from the UK but travelling in the US so I don't know that much about US telecoms.

I have a UK pay-as-you-go O2 sim card and the iphone won't recognize it as valid. What sim should I get that the iPhone will accept?
