Question OpenSSH works... but only for a short time
I am having an issue with OpenSSH and have been unable to find any information via search.

I can SSH into my iPhone 3G, navigate through the folders, transfer files, etc., but after a short period of time, the link is disconnected. I can re-establish the connection by switching SSH off and then back on using Boss Prefs, but the connection is transitory and I have to repeatedly reconnect. It's quite a PITA to make additions/changes to the iPhone with these interruptions.

I have re-installed OpenSSH to no avail.

Any constructive input on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Is it not your wifi reverting back to 3g/edge when the phone locks itself, try keeping the phone plugged in while ssh-ing

    Thx for the reply zenj.

The iPhone for Auto-Lock was set to 'Never'. and it doesn't matter whether or not it's plugged in.

    Got any other ideas?

Actually, I'm on a Mac and I'm using Fetch. I have been using this program for years, and for over a year on my iPhone 2G with no problems. Also, recent update and pwned the 2G to FW 2.0.1 with no SSH issues.

I have Fugu and Cyberduck and will try them on the 3G when I get home this evening.

First, use cyberduck. Transmit, Fetch, and a few other FTP programs can timeout.

Thumbs up Cyberduck is nice! SSH is stable now.
    one1,

Thx for the tip. I DL'd Cyberduck. It's a nice interface. I like the OS X style indented folder configuration. It's also pretty fast. Sometimes I just get comfortable with what I have and don't really take the time to look at alternatives. I had previously tried Fugu based on another recommendation and didn't particularly care for the interface.

    No SSH timeout with Cyberduck!

I really didn't think this was a Fetch problem. I don't now and didn't ever have a timeout issue with my 2G, which is also now at FW 2.0.1. Fetch and Fugu both timeout with the 3G, but work just fine with the 2G. I don't really understand how it is that these browsers behave differently with one iPhone vs. another.

Well, facts are facts and I guess Cyberduck will be my FTP/SFTP browser going forward. Thx again for the tip.
