Thread: iPhone turned on automatically

    Default iPhone turned on automatically
So i was surfing the web at 3:30 a.m. (US Central time) on my MacBook and i had my iPhone sitting next to me on the desk. The phone was asleep, but at 3:34 a.m. it buzzed and the backlight came on revealing the "Slide to Unlock" slider.

I initially thought it might be a update, but it wasn't that...

anybody else experience this and should i be worried?

also, could this be a triggered update like with the "Upload to Web Gallery" feature???

if anyone has any idea, please help out cuz i am utterly confused...

I should also mention that there weren't any calls, texts, or emails.... and wifi was disabled.

yeah... it wasn't being charged (the battery was 3/4 full).

also, when i woke up this morning my background was gone. I had to go back into my photos and add it again.

You think that all my apps might be affecting how this thing functions?

    Found this: /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "">
    <plist version="1.0">
<string>Do not edit this file by hand - it must remain in sorted-by-date order.</string>

According to that, my phone should automatically wake itself at 3:45pm on the 21st (tomorrow), since your phone woke at 3:45 AM, that's too strange to be a coincidence. Why this is getting set is a mystery, but Springboard is what appears to be setting it.

cool. so it's not my applications messing around with my iPhone's functions then? its something preset into the phone?

The waking up, yes. The background changing, I have no idea...

I'm going to check my phone at the appointed time, and see if it does turn on by itself. I'll then check the file and see what the next time is set to.

Dang, I messed up, I didn't notice the Z after the time (Zulu), so I was 6 hours off and missed it.

My new time, as indicated in the plist, is 20.48.00Z tomorrow, or 2:48pm Central. I'm going to try rewriting the plist when I get home tonight and see if I can trigger this without having to wait so long...

Well, changing the file manually to about 10 minutes in the future, shutting down, and rebooting the phone, then putting it to sleep, did not result in the phone waking itself up again.

I checked the file, and it was still as I had left it. But, I checked again about 20 minutes later, and the file had updated itself:

Maybe I didn't have it asleep long enough for the AutoWake to kick in, I don't know. I suppose I'll just have to watch it again tomorrow night.
