    Default iPhone 3G and Permissions
    Hello --

    I'm really enjoying the 3G.. but, miss the hell out of some of the apps and abilities of the earlier phone and firmware.

    One thing I really miss ... is the ability to make individual apps for speed dialing my favorite contacts.

    Here's the verbatim of the *.list file I'd have in the app folder. Set the permissions to 0755 and off I'd go.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>CFBundleDevelopmentRegion</key>
    <string>en</string>
    <key>CFBundleName</key>
    <string>Embark</string>
    <key>CFBundleExecutable</key>
    <string>Embark</string>
    <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
    <string>com.Monica.embark</string>
    <key>CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion</key>
    <string>0.1</string>
    <key>CFBundlePackageType</key>
    <string>APPL</string>
    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string>1.0.0</string>
    <key>CFBundleSignature</key>
    <string>????</string>
    <key>CFBundleVersion</key>
    <string>1.0</string>
    <key>EmbarkURL</key>
    <string>tel:561-555-1212</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>

    When I do this with my 3G and 2.0 .. it just goes black for a second then back to the spring board.. is there a trick to getting permissions to take in 2.0?

    thanks!!

    1) 755 is not enuf! you have to 'fake sign' or 'real sign' an app!
    2) not even sure if Embark runs on 2.0 as is.
    3) you can still use shell scripts as apps and command line utils like Erica's openURL!

    unless you are a hacker... don't bother, "friend book" (app store) is a two click solution!

    again.. these worked fine as individual apps on all other firmwares and on the edge phone. Just don't understand why they're not taking on the new phone. I wish I were more knowledgable.. I don't understand your answer..

    just want to click on the pic on the desktop and call the number.

    2.0 is DIFFERENT! all apps need to be signed (REAL OR FAKE)

    you may wish to WAIT until someone does 1-click dialer.

    maybe I will!

    you would be the king. I have become accustomed to just click and dial.. stunned apple didn't offer this from the get go. You want to see all the files I used to make the apps?

    cool.. just to let you know.. I don't really know what embark is.. if it's an app.. that's not what I used. I made individual apps with the names of my contacts.. put a pic of them.. that list I copied earlier.. and a couple of different files in the app folder.

    thanks man

    just threw you a thanks.. can't get it to work.. but, thanks.. potentially great app.

    it's got to be a permissions thing. Can get the app to open. put in the name and number.. but, it's not creating the button.

    hmm

    TapDial is not working properly with 2.1 . When you create a SB Contact, it will take a few resprings before it will show, and every one created will have the exact same name on the screen - SBDial

    Hope this bug can be remedied. Its a great little program.

    Edit - found a way to make it work, but you need to manually adjust a string in a key.

    The problem - in 2.1, TapDial is naming every contact created the same name - SBDial.
    Solution - after creating a contact in TapDial, you then must SSH into your iPhone, and go to the Applications folder. Find the contact you created - it will be named correctly according to the name you gave it. Open that app folder, and then edit the Info.plist for that contact. Here is what to change -

    Look at the <key>CFBundleName</key>
    under that is the string you need to edit. It is default now to this - <string>SBDial</string> Simply edit by changing the word SBDial to the actual name you created. Then save the plist, and you are done.

    When you respring, everything will appear correctly.
