Exclamation Important info needed from people having officialy unlocked iPhone 3G
I bought an iPhone 3G on eBay after searching a lot. The seller is telling me that he has paid the unlocking fee. Now, the problem is that he is telling me whenever I swap sims, I have to do a restore with iTunes 7.7.1 and re-register my phone with that card. Is it a lie or the truth? Please help me, I don't want to be scammed. I live in India and my uncle (doesn't know anything about iPhone) is getting it for me. SO I don't want to have an iPhone in India which is locked some Australian carrier.

The helper will be suitably rewarded.

There is no official UNLOCK software for the 3G. Only things like yessim...Google or Ebay it. My cousin lives in Poland and is going to wait!! I just hope I can get like 10 no contract 3G's when they release.....

My 2cents wait for the software unlock! The Dev Team is working hard everyday...

You asked the same question, about a week ago, and it was answered for you! YES they are unlocked to the network provider you buy it from. If it is unlocked with say Telstra (telco) ONLY that sim with work in it.

Clearly you have information that's not know elsewhere. Just buy it and enjoy your brick.

Only way you're gonna be able to use that iphone is by moving to Australia.

Your responses to people that know better than you are hilarious!

    Hi Sayam,

I have bought a 3G 16GB iPhone from Telstra Australia. It was originally locked to Telstra SIM card. But they do allow unlocking by paying a fee of AU$150 to unlock it; meaning I can use any SIM card in the world.

So I paid AU$150. And three day later, an SMS sent to notify me that my 3G iPhone is "unlocked". Swapped in the another SIM card from Singapore and phone works immediately.

Even when I did restore or upgrade to FW 2.0.1, the phone will be activated and unlocked immediately when it connects to iTune.

    Hope this help you.

3G iphone from Australia, once officially unlocked by Telstra/Optus/Vodafone. It will be permanently REMAIN UNLOCKED. No need to use any SIM adapter etc....Don't need to restore/re-register when swapping to another Telco's SIM card(TESTED).

FYI iPhone from HongKong and Singapore is unlocked due to the law.

I believe you question was answered, but yes, if you have an unlocked phone it should be just a sim swap.

It sounds like you think it will go back to Emergency Only mode when you remove the sim card, which is not the case. And based on the last post it sounds like the unlock stays through restores.

That's very interesting. Can I send $150 AU and have them unlock my US iphone? :P
