Thread: Question about the GPS

  1. #1
    Default Question about the GPS
how exactly does the GPS work, i don't mean technically but is it something that you have to pay the mobile provider? or that you need 3G internet to use? If I want to buy a 3G iPhone and take to my country in south America but I don't have the 3G data plan would it be possible to use it?

And I have another not related question, I read somewhere that if you bought an old iPhone after a specific date you could return it and change it for the new one?

GPS is free and clear. The only time you would pay your provider (Like Blackberry does with Rogers here in Canada) is because they don't have the maps built in, so they have to download them. Hence a GPS plan. But iPhone downloads its maps from Google, not your provider, so the only thing you're being charged for is data.

yes but you would need to stay near a wifi signal at all times or else just use it on EDGE
