Default Speaker went dead after updating to 1.1.1
    Hi There,

after virginize, updateing, jailbreak and unlock my iphone i thought everything is ok. but suddenly (while starting playback a video) after a few seconds the speaker of my iphone went silent. no more audio playback, no sounds, no ringtone if a call comes in. if i plug in the headphones, everything works, but the speaker are dead.

There was no external force to the phone, the speaker just stoped working after i started a movie and turned down the volume by clicking the buttons on the iphones side.

could someone help me with this please?

    thanks a lot,
    SioSae

Never heard of that. You sure the phone isn't on silent mode?

There is a known Apple issue where sometimes the audio prefs get 'stuck' on earbuds, and you have to plugin/unplug the earbuds a couple of times to get the speakers going again. This happened to me, and that fixed it, as per Apple Discussions forum.

My friends did the exact same thing. We restored to 1.1.1 to see if we could fix it and nothing. We took it to the apple store and they swaped out the phone.

You guys are great!!! I was freaking out when this happened to me. I don't use the earphones very often but did last night and sure enough afterwards my Iphone speaker did not work. The SPEAKER did, but not the one at the top of the iPhone.

Sure enough.. plugged in the earbud again and unplugged it and it now works again!!!

Is this hardware or software bug?

it happens again, without any reason, picked the phone up after some hours and it went silent again. until now, no success with plug and unplugging the earphones (unfortunatelly i have to press play everytime i unplug the earphones because the music stops automatically)

just read on hacktheiphone, that a few users of the anysim unlock reported some problems with the speaker and unplugging the earphones too. not the same problem but maybe there is something going wrong with the new anysim (the problem didn't occur with 1.0.2's old anysim), maybe not. i dont know, all i know is that i didn't use earphones the time, the speaker went dead the second time so it cant be only related to the unplug action.

I had the same problem! Fixed it by plugging in earphones. I hope this problem doesn't come back...

Yesterday I was watching a movie without my earphones and after ap. 30min the speaker went silent. without doing anything, it just stopped playing sound. i tried to fix it by plug and unplugging but didn't get the speaker working again. so i decided to go to bed and try it this morning and voila, the phone repaired itself?!?! the speaker works again. it is the third time in 4 days after updating my unlocked 1.0.2 iphone to 1.1.1 (with virginize it first) and unlocking it. the whole month using it with 1.0.2 there was never this problem.

I've had the same problem. I was using version 1.0.2 and updated to 1.1.1 last night using SimFree 1.7 hoping that the issue would be fixed. It still does not work and I can't hear anything out of the top speaker. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't have an AT&T account so I don't think that I could just take the phone back to an Apple store and have them exchange it.

now after getting silent again i cant fix it anymore. even if i plug and unplug it 100 times. it still stay silent. the phone recognizes the unplugging because it stops the music playback. but why the sound isn't direct to the speaker the same time. and why the speaker stops working during video playback?

No sound at all? I got a call last night and it wasn't on silent but the phone was just vibrating. Somehow the volume for the ringtone went down to 0. I didn't lower it, and none of my friends that used my phone did.

See if the volume went down in settings. I can't explain why it would happen, but it's worth a shot.

thanks for the tip, but there is no sound at all coming from the speaker. no ringtone, no keyboard clicks, slider sounds, no music or audio during video playback. everything works with the earphones, with them i'll hear anything.

even after a couple of restores nothing changed. the speaker stay silent. i'm out of options, don't know why this happens and i could kick myself on making the update to 1.1.1 because before that, everything was fine.

so five days until the availability of the iphone here in germany, maybe i will sell this one on ebay and get me a new one if there is no other clue.

    thanks anyway,

yesterday i bought myself the apple bluetooth headset and discovered that it wont work eighter. the phone recognize the headset (i hear a calling sound if a call comes in) and by setting the volume the headset beeps reaching the maximum and minimum value. so the headset should be ok i think.

but i cant hear anything or speaking trough the headset. so until yesterday i thought it may be a hardware issue with my eyternal speaker but now i think its software driven because of i can only make calls with the phone or the earphones but not with setting the call to speaker or headset.

maybe a restore isn't working for me (tried it several times) because like i read on another thread the "normal" restore doesn't restore everything. does somebody know who to restore the iphone completely to its factoring settings?

    thanks anyway.

after updating to 1.1.2 the bluetooth headset is working. so only the speaker is still silent. just want let you know.
