Thread: GroovyLock (HTML LockScreen Platform)

Please take into consideration that you are ruining a majority of all lockscreens created that run with GroovyLock (worse than what you are calling a WebKit bug), but are only fixing a (small) issue only a (few) have. Alert has been working fine and I myself have created extensive lockscreens that work fine on iOS8 even with your iOS7 created tweak. Actually only one Lockscreen I know of and that is uniAW that has an issue which is these random resprings. Sounds about right when you have a 100mb LS with animated weather putting sometimes hundreds of elements into the html.

Maybe release under a different package? There is only a few small issues with the current GroovyLock and that lies in the existing API, iOS7 methods you used to hide clock and change where the Lockscreen sits (background or not).

Think about that before pushing to Cydia, especially since you don't have the time anymore to give updates as you once did. Anyways have a good Christmas.

June, me and quite a few others don't just have a problem with UNIAW LS but almost all with heavy CSS effects and weatherwalls. So, it's not just a few people from what I have seen and it is definitely not a small issue. Constant resprings isn't a small problem to me.

I am in huge support of Jake pursuing this method and I think when the bugs get worked out, this will be the better way going forward.

It resolved SO many of us that have random respring issues. Keep it up Jake.

On my 6+ my phone resprings with every and any animated lock screen no matter how small the animation is. I did a fresh restore and just installed the tweaks necessary for groovy lock to run and turn off almost every animation on UniAW 6.4 LS, other LS that are just touch, example a LS with touch to bring up a clock no weather animation involved and UniAW7 with all animation turned off .

I just can't run any LS that involves movement . I get the same results on other LS tweaks too i.e Convergance, LockHTML and Cydgets .

I would think he'd be happy. Then he could update his LB and sell it as a new lockscreen. Heck, make like 5-6 different versions of the same thing and sell all of them. Gotta make that cash.

    Touché.

It really is a huge issue though and I think stability is more important than protecting a single Lockscreen package.

People don't have to use the new GL if they want legacy support. Just use Convergance or LockHTML. No need for GL not to evolve and improve.

Yeah,. June. Not an isolated problem, LockBuilder makes crash city for most to all 6+ users too. A failure in UIWebView. Read up, boss. WKWebView is the future of HTML in iOS. Don't fight Jake on this one. He knows what he's doing per my read..

Well, it does get confusing because both terms are peppered throughout most articles. I'm not sure that I even have it right now, but I'm going with this.

Not a small issue. Affects all idevices to different degrees, 6+ being the most frequent. My i6 will respring randomly no matter how small the LS is. Obviously not as much as running a animation intensive Ls/widget but enough where it can be very annoying and at times slow me down if I'm trying to get something done or take a picture for example and I have to wait 10-15 seconds because the phone resprung. This new direction Jake is going may have a few bugs where some widgets may require a small rewrite (a lot won't though as not all widgets require reading a local file to work) but none of these bugs hinder actual usage of your idevice. I'd gladly take a widget freezing but still having full access to my phone over widgets not freezing and randomly getting shut out of my phone not able to do anything for 10-15 seconds.

So thought I'd report since updating all three new versions I've had zero random resprings on the 6+ 8.1
I was having 3-4 an hour before.
Also having no lock screens that support the new api I've been running uniaw7rc10 in demo mode with thunderstorms and not one respring has occurred with passcode on as well.
Must say I'm very impressed indeed
Just need lockscreens and sbhtml's be updated with new Api to read widgetweather files and I think we're on to a winner here.
Would do it myself but that type of code is beyond me.
Thank you very much appreciated jake.

Now if your lockscreen doesn't read from the local filesystem, and doesn't have any timers then you may be lucky enough for the transition to be quite smooth. Either way we won't know fully without it being tested on various lockscreens, so I'm asking for some developers to take some time and feedback at the moment before anything is publicly released
    Hi GC,

Unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to understand this completely but from what I read it seems Apple have fixed this issue with a new API:
    [WKWebView loadFileURL:allowingReadAccessToURL:]

Here is the report of the bug:
    https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137153
And it's seemingly fixed but don't think it's been released yet (maybe it will come with IOS 8.2):

So that's good to know. I've noticed the same thing and fluidity but I only tested it in ifile. Is that what you mean when you say you tested it in demo mode?

It is interesting to think about - that if Apple fixes in 8.2 the original UIWevView bug - will all respringing stop on our original widgets....

You KNOW our Chinese boys will jailbreak any update that comes out.. UIWebView running at 82% and higher CPU has got to be a bug that's fixable. Question remains - is UIWebView hearty enough, even with no CPU bugs, to run high animation widgets like UniAW7. We all remember the safe mode crashing with passcode lock on in iOS7. Was UIWebView not hearty enough then too? Was iOS 7 crashing w/passcode lock on & high animation the beginning of the need for a WKWebView solution?
Or is a totally bugless UIWebView still up to the job of running our html widgets?....

So it's an interesting time for the jb community right now. I, for 1, am glad GroovyCarrot, SDDev and Matchstik are looking for new more stable directions to take html widget making. Even if it requires some recoding on the part of us modders.
