im gonna try not to rant too much here but... god i hate all this GTA controversy. if this kid cant take the game for what it is, a game, then he shouldnt have been playing it in the first place. its not R*'s fault, its his parents' fault. plenty of people play this game that dont commit crimes such as this, me included, and they are fine, but then some idiot has to attempt to "recreate a scene from the game", then everyone says that the game is corrupting society. its bulls***. and thats my 2 cents.

    I agree ^

Stupid people do stupid things. Don't give stupid people things that, if recreated, could end up harmful.

Agreed.......it isnt the games fault. This is the same as saying guns kill people. Not true.....People kill people.

I wouldn't say the game is corrupting society as a whole. But I think that it's incorrect to say that these games don't have an effect on our mindset. A lot of influence caused by excessive violence in games (depends on what you judge as excessive) takes place on a subconscious level, especially through prolonged amounts of play.

I think if anyone else is thinking about doing this because of GTA to go ahead, that way we can get the biggest morons in society out.

rockstar needs to put a sticker on all rated r games "parental advisory: don't give this to your child if he is dumb enough to try an emulate these actions (SERIOUSLY)"

That is stupid just because some messed up person killed someone doesn't mean people can't be mature and play for fun

I feel like I am a decent person, raised with good morals and taught right from wrong. I graduated from college and lead a pretty normal life. My mother used to always tell me it's the video games and music that make people do this. Well after many years of me completely disagreeing with her, I have to say she was somewhat right. Today's society is so desensitized by T.V., games, music and the internet that honestly a lot of people don't really understand what is going on. I played GTA 2 or 3 for about 3 hours one afternoon, and when I left to go out, I can't tell you the rage that came over me. I literally had to pull over and remind myself that "this is not a game and get my composure back." I'm not saying it's GTA's fault, but I know for sure if I didn't play that game, I wouldn't have acted and driven the way I did. So take from this and understand that this is not too far fetched!

As a parent of three teenage boys all into games, it is not the games. The parents teach kids reality from fantasy. I ahve observed, and my kids all say, that palying some of these games keeps them from doing bad stuff in reality. My 17 yearold says it best. He says you can have a frustrating day at school or wherever, with kids in your face making fun, whatever, come home and shoot up some bad guys on a video game to release frustration. Next day you can go into school and just smile and turn your back on the jerks that mess with you.

This said, we all in my family tend to be very independent thinkers. Most folks who tend to follow the crowd and trends etc... may perhaps be more influenced. All I know id my kids make fun of peoplke who take the games so seriously becasue they are so obviously fake. Then again, my 14 year old at age 3 laughed on all the "scary" attractions at DIsney World and wondered why older kids were crying cause it was 'pretend\". How stupid and gullible are kids?

My own comment its that a few bad apples (no pun intended) mess up everything for those of us who behave responsibly whether it be video games, traffic rules, other protect-people-from-themselves rules. Its just as bad as the fact they want to put speed bumps in my neighborhood becasue of all the "speeding' cars. The police did studies and determine that speeding is not excessive. I could hjave told you that, its the dumbass people who walk 3 abreast in the street and dont look for trafficor move over forcing cars to stop dead if there is oncoming traffic. People have lost all reason.

Tragic as killings are its lame to blame it on media. There are other things such as parents not caring or being involved with their kids, not attempting to understand their kids, forgetting what it was like at the same age. Maybe I never grew up but I so can remember 30 years ago and what it was like. Most of my peers are total hypocritical a-holes to their kids. I am not in the least permissive but our discipline is always fair and appropriate and we don't get bent out of shape over stuff that does nt matter. My kids learned to be truthful no matter how bad things are. its far worse to lie. Not that you get off scot free, but it will be just and fair. It is parents who freak out over dumb stuff that creat kids who lie and cheat. I used to lie to my mom because she was so out of touch and unreasonable. If you are not comfortable with somehting your kid is doing dont forbid them it, point out the possibile negative consequences in a way that motivates them to choose wisely. This can differ greatly form person to person. Remembering your child is not a little clone of you.

Well, the major problem is those kind of contents for mature are being irresponsibly distributed. In fantasy wise, there is no difference between movie and video game in terms of intention of expression. But video games attract kids more and kids actually take control of person (or monster, object whatever), this is the biggest problem of video game because it is all about interaction and virtual realisation unlike one way perception we used to receive.

Unfortunately, we cannot cover our kids eye and ear all the time. I believe parents have very important role. Like I said, we cannot protect kids from the criminal or sexual contents 100% because ... they are pretty much everywhere these days. Stubborn restriction can also be dangerous because it may create a boundary of curiosity. So ... parents.. talk to your kids and make them understand it's a fake ( like porn movie is not real reflection of our usual sex life )

Sorry if my writing is hard to read...
wanted to say something... logically, but too sleepy to organise my thought logically :P

In the 80's it was D&D, in the 90's is was "devil music", now it's violent video games. People are always looking to blame other things for their own miserable failures in life.
Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.
